Club Round Up! Volunteer Training! Here’s a snippet of what’s been happening in what has been another busy term in the Aboyne network! Back in November, 13 Active Schools volunteers and local club coaches successfully completed Sportscotland Safeguarding and Protecting Children training to help recognise signs of child abuse and develop their coaching expertise. Aboyne Arrows Running Club continues to go from strength to strength with parent & teacher volunteers Heather, Briony, Karen, Shirley, Sally and Mrs Farquharson doing some great work with a keen bunch of athletes on Thursday lunchtimes! We are always looking for more help with the club though, so please get in touch if you would like to help out! The cluster Adventure Running club is now under new management! With our coaches, Jon and Sarah, away over the winter months, running fanatics Marie and Katie have now taken over the group which meets at the Mid Deeside Church Hall in Torphins. Runners will take in various routes in and around Torphins, as well as playing some fun athletics game sin the Church Hall! Active Schools rely heavily on volunteers to run and help out with many of the activities that are on offer in the Aboyne cluster. We are currently developing our calender of training courses for current/potential volunteers during next term, with details of dates and times to be confirmed shortly. If you would like more information on training courses, or on how to volunteer with Active Schools, please get in touch. Staffing Changes! I’m delighted to announce that we will be welcoming back the lovely Shona Park as the Active Schools Coordinator following her maternity leave. Shona will start back full time at the beginning of January and will be contactable again on her usual email address and phone numbers (see below). This of course means that my reign of terror as ASC in Aboyne is now over and I just wanted to thank all pupils, parents, school staff and coaches/volunteers for your time and effort over the last 6 months or so, it’s been greatly appreciated! Thank you, Graeme. Mar Orienteering Club The P5-7 Orienteering club finished up for this year with 3 sessions in November. These sessions ran at the earlier time of 3.45-4.45pm due to the fading light afterschool and focussed primarily on developing the fitness and map work skills that were gained during term 1. However, as these sessions have been so popular, the club will make a return in March 2016, with sessions continuing on until June! Look out in school and on our website for more info on how to sign up! Also make sure to check out the Marr Orienteering Club website for updates on their training and events in the meantime!
