Remember, when you think
about alcohol and drugs, there are
many different types of drugs
such as cannabis,
heroin,
amphetamines (speed,
ice), medications from
the doctor or chemist,
khat, tobacco, and others
that can cause problems.
Here are some questions to
help you decide.
• Have family or friends ever complained about you
taking alcohol or drugs?
• Do you ever take alcohol or drugs first thing in the
morning?
• Do you ever take alcohol or drugs to get you
through the day?
• Have you or someone else been hurt because of
alcohol or drugs?
• Do you hide alcohol or drugs from family or friends,
because you are embarrassed, ashamed or scared?
• Does alcohol or drug taking affect other parts of
your life, for example, family relationships, work,
friendships, finances or health?
• Have you ever run out of money for things you
need, like food or paying your bills, because you
used the money for alcohol or drugs?
• Have you had legal problems or been in trouble
with the police because of alcohol or drugs, for
example drink-driving, disorderly conduct or
drug charges?
If you answered yes to any of these
questions then you might need to talk
to someone.
