What to Wear - MyRRU for Students

WHAT TO WEAR
As a graduating student, you are required to wear RRU’s official regalia including a gown, cap
and tassel to your ceremony. Your Convocation regalia is ordered when completing the
Application to Attend Convocation (ATAC) form. Gowns are black and fall across the calf, halfway between the knee and the ankle. Gowns are sized according to your height and the cap is a
black mortarboard with a black tassel.
The hood is black with blue satin lining. The velvet trim around the hood indicates the degree.
The width of the trim determines Bachelor (2”) or Master (3”).
You will pick up the gown, cap, tassel and hood in the Gowning Area in the Royal Theatre on
the day of your ceremony. Please be there 1 hour before your ceremony (i.e., 8:30 a.m. for the
morning ceremony, and 12:30pm for the afternoon ceremony). RRU staff will be on hand to
assist you in putting on your gown, cap, tassel and placing your hood. You will then proceed to
the main floor to be seated for the ceremony.
Gowns are designed to leave about 10 inches of leg showing. Keep this in mind when you decide
what to wear underneath. We strongly recommend shoes that you can walk in during the formal
procession from the main floor to the stage and back.
There is no storage place for your personal items. Please do not leave anything valuable in the
Gowning Room during your ceremony. It is recommended that you leave your personal items
such as purses and coats with your family/guests.
