GeoSIL® is a safe, versatile, totally chlorine free, antiviral disinfectant that can be used extensively
throughout the industry. It is the ideal solution where traditional sanitisers such as chlorine, need to
be replaced.
Recent EU directives now limit the amount of chlorine that can be used in
poultry processing to that allowed in potable water, effectively banning
its use in poultry processing. The reasons behind this move are
because of both taste, and the production of carcinogenic byproducts.
In the United States, chlorine has become controversial as a food
additive. Toxic byproducts are created by chlorine in water, and the food
industry is trying to reduce the use of chlorinated water in food
processing. The American Public Health Association has a policy
statement calling for the use of alternatives to chlorine whenever
possible. It has also been found that the high levels of chlorine required
for the sterilising of carcasses can cause eye and respiratory irritation
among factory workers. Lower levels that do not have this effect can
compromise antimicrobial effectiveness.

GeoSIL® is stable, even at high air and water temperatures, and has an excellent storage time. It is
effective over a very wide temperature range, and does not give off noxious gas, even at high
concentrations. The unique blend of two basic ingredients, hydrogen peroxide & silver (H2O2 & Ag)
are synergistic and greatly enhance the product effectiveness. It is a multi-component disinfectant,
with a wide spectrum of activity and superior stability that make it the ideal general purpose
disinfectant for surface and specialist sanitation in the breeding and processing of poultry.
The unique properties of GeoSIL® make it particularly suitable for the treatment of poultry drinking
water. Because it is tasteless and odourless and has the ability to remove unpleasant tastes, water
consumption by the birds tends to increase. Pure water is essential for poultry health and
production, and improved water hygiene is reflected in the birds health, increase growth rates, &
reduce mortality rates. GeoSIL® also has the unique ability to prevent and remove biofilms in the
distribution system, greatly reducing the need for regular decontamination and cleaning of the
watering system.
Recent test have shown that GeoSIL® is effective against Avian Influenza Virus H5N1
Tests carried out in October 2005, at the Johan Béla National Centre for Epidemiology, Budapest, for Sanosil
Ltd. Switzerland, have shown that GeoSIL® is effective against Avian Influenza viruses H5N1, and sub types
H5, H7, and H9. In the in vitro test, with a concentration of 3% and 6%, and an exposure time of 20 minutes,
the disinfectant was shown to be very effective.

Testing
GeoSIL® has been tested and shown to be effective against over 200 pathogens, including E.Coli, Salmonella,
Campylobacter, Aspergillus, Newcastle Disease Virus. (See sheet IDS 10.6 Pathogen Tests). In addition, extensive
testing in the poultry industry has been carried out overseas into is effectiveness as a water sterilant, surface
disinfectant, and egg disinfectant.
New Zealand Approvals
®
GeoSIL DS is approved by NZFSA as a category C41 sanitiser for use in food preparation areas
for disinfection of food processing equipment, tools, work surfaces, etc., and as a C61 approved
®
water treatment chemical. GeoSIL is AsureQuality approved as a food contact surface sanitiser in
Food / beverage / dairy factories (Ref. H1475), registered as an organic cleaner as per Table 6 of
®
the Organic Standards (No. 0035). GeoSIL is also NZFSA registered pursuant to the ACVM Act
1997 as an approved Agricultural Compound for the post harvest control of human & plant
pathogens (Reg. No. P7819)
