HOW TO COLLECT SALIVA
1.
Collect saliva before eating a meal. Do NOT clean teeth beforehand
2.
Allow saliva to collect in the mouth and gently spit into the tube.
3.
Use a sterile 25mL universal container without any preservatives
4.
Repeat until the tube is at least half full (excluding froth). This may take some
subjects as long as 10 to 15 minutes to achieve.
5.
Write the date and time on the label before sticking it on the appropriate tube.
This is very important.
Saliva may be obtained from a very young child by gentle suction.

Once you have collected the saliva, place it in the freezer or freezing compartment of
the refrigerator. On the next day, take the samples out, still frozen and post back
immediately to the hospital, putting 2 FIRST CLASS STAMPS on the envelope. This
is very important as any delay will damage the sample.
