Mock Epic Assignment
Your task is as follows: You will write a mock epic (a short poetic story that mocks (makes fun of) some
trivial (unimportant) aspect of society. Your mock epic will focus on contemporary American society and
include representations of modern popular culture (TV, Music, Movies, Sports, Books, etc.).
Criteria:
-You must have well-developed characters (a minimum of four).
-You must use a lofty tone that mimics the mock epic (it needs to be funny and make fun of the epic
hero style).
-You must have a minimum of 100 lines of poetry (extra credit will be offered for longer poems)
--You must include some kind of a “battle.”
-You must be creative!!
An outline and the initial steps of the story should be ready tomorrow. We’ll debrief and discuss it
tomorrow.
