Applicant FAQ`s - Forest Cliff Camp

Applicant FAQ’s
Who makes a good reference?
Preferably, people who know you well but are not a family member. We ask for three
references – a work reference, a character reference, and a pastor/spiritual
reference. We do allow a character reference to be a peer that knows you well,
however we ask that the other references be supervisors, teachers, small group
leaders, etc. Not all references need to be familiar with your spiritual commitment
(i.e. many academic references are teachers who may not be Christians – that’s OK).
How are references supposed to complete a reference this year?
You are responsible for asking references to complete an online reference form for
you. They can find the form at www.forestcliff.ca/references
ALL THREE references must be submitted for your application to be complete.
Applications are due on or before January 31, 2015.
What positions are available?
We plan on hiring over 75 staff in over 16 different positions for the summer. These
positions vary widely.
During the online application process you will be able to see each specific position.
You may then indicate which positions you are interested in. During the interview we
will match your passions, gifts, and experience with the open position that best fits
you.

What are the dates for training, summer, terms, etc?
All the dates are included in the 2015 Staff Application Letter and will be included in
the offer of employment if you are offered a position.
Do I have to come to training?
Training is extremely important for equipping you to be effective in your position at
Forest Cliff during the summer. It is a time when you will learn more about us as an
organization and how to be successful in your roles. Many past staff would also say
that it was during training that they built great relationships with other staff. Bottom
line: training is a phenomenal time and you don’t want to miss it! If you have a oncein-a-lifetime immediate family event during training (i.e. a sibling is graduating or
getting married), you can talk to your interviewer about missing a short amount of
training. Under some circumstances we will permit returning staff to miss part of
training.
Am I old enough to work at Forest Cliff?
Staff are required to be 16 years old by the first day of summer camp. This is a
minimum and the majority of staff are over the age of 18.
How much do I get paid?
This summer pay will range anywhere from $2600 to $3340 depending upon your
position. Summer staff will also receive room, board and tuck (yes!!!) in addition to
their summer salaries.
DAY CAMP FAQ’s
What is Forest Cliff Day Camp?
It is all the fun of Forest Cliff Camp and it is packaged to be portable so we can set up
camp for a week at one of our Host Partner churches. We want to take all the great
things of a Forest Cliff Experience and create a way to deliver it to children (ages 510) over a week at a church near their home. It is totally unlike anything you have
ever been involved in before! Check out this video of another camp in Michigan that
is running this type of Day Camp to get an idea of what Forest Cliff Day Camp will be
like.
Who will work at Day Camp?
Our Day Camp staff team will be comprised of:
Staff hired for Day Camp all summer:
1 Day Camp Director (full time position)
2 Head Counsellors – work with the Director to lead staff and care for campers
1 Administrator – responsible for communications, registration and will provide
administrative support to the staff team
5 Area Directors – provide leadership support to two or three groups and operate an
activity area (water & inflatables, mobile rock wall, media, program & games, target
sports)
Rotational staff that serve as BOTH Cabin Counsellors and Day Camp Group Leaders:
8-12 Group Leaders – work with a CIT to provide an unforgettable and life changing
day camp experience for an age specific group of boys and girls
Why are some staff rotational?
One of the most important aspects of launching Forest Cliff Day Camps is to create a
very consistent experience when compared to our overnight camps. We know it is
important to have some of the same staff that make a week at Forest Cliff Camp
amazing at Forest Cliff Day Camps so they bring that awesomeness to Day Camp!
We also think that is will provide a unique change of setting and pace for many of our
staff while still serving in the ministry context of Forest Cliff.
Where will I sleep?
All of the Day Camps this summer are in London, so it would seem natural that staff
from London will form the majority of our rotational team. Meaning they would sleep
in their own bed!
This is a really great opportunity for all our staff, so if you are not from London but are
still excited to participate we will be coordinating with other staff parents to provide
accommodation, transportation and meals for the week(s) you want to serve at Day
Camp.
How much do I get paid?
Pay for Day Camp staff is the same as Overnight Staff.
How many weeks is Day Camp operating?
This summer we hope to have 6 weeks of Day Camps. We will operate 3 weeks at
Stoney Creek Baptist Church, 2 weeks at West Park Church and 1 week at
Summerside Community Church. Day Camp positions will be paid for all 10 weeks
and staff will be involved in training and advertising on the weeks that no camps are
operating.
Do I need a car?
All our Day Camps are held in London so you do need to work out transportation to
the Day Camp site for that week. The sites are:
Stoney Creek Baptist Church (Northeast London)
West Park Church (Hyde Park)
Summerside Community Church (Southeast London)

I really love the opportunity to make new friends and hangout at camp
in the evenings. Do we get that at Day Camp?
Yes, we think that is a very important part of Forest Cliff and really strengthens the
team! Every Tuesday evening we have supper provided and do Guys/Girls Bible
study and sharing, every Thursday evening we have supper provided and hangout,
play silly games and pray for the campers of that week. Each evening goes from
about 6-8 pm.
