You are our partners and it is important that we work together for the
benefit of your child. You can speak with staff at any time and we hope that
you will come along to our parents’ evenings.
Throughout the two years in nursery a record of your child’s development is
being taken. This is called a ‘Learner’s Journey’ which is available for you at
any time to share with your child. Please bring in any evidence (photographs,
drawings, certificates) of any achievements and experiences from home
which your child may wish to proudly add to this. This document is passed
onto your child’s Primary One teacher who will continue to complete it during
the first year in school. Information about your child’s progress will be
shared with you before your child moves on to primary school.
TOYS
Please encourage your child to leave his/her own toys at home and not bring
them to nursery. This prevents toys being lost or broken at school and
causing distress.
ATTENDANCE
Please don’t send an ill child to nursery (even if the child says he/she wants
to go). It is vital that we have up to date emergency contact telephone
numbers in case your child becomes ill whilst at nursery school. Please inform
us as soon as possible. If we do not receive contact from a parent we will try
to contact you, however if no contact can be made we may refer absence to
the Health visitor.

Nursery Provision
 All 3 and 4 year olds will be entitled to 600 hours nursery provision.
 We are also a designated provision for 2 year olds with entitlement for
early childcare and learning who are also entitled to up to 600 hours

Nurses and a Pupil Support Worker and ‘CORE Learning Time’ which is staffed
by a Teacher, Nursery Nurses and a Pupil Support worker.
 The additional provision ends at 8.50am for the AM Session- all AM
children should be in nursery by this time.
 The additional provision ends at 4.11pm for the PM children – all children
should have been collected by this time.
Morning Children (AM Session)
Parents are able to deliver their child to nursery for (FELC) where breakfast
is available before the core session begins from 8.15 am.
Doors open ten minutes prior to the finishing times to allow parents to dress
their children and have all AM children out of the school by 11.20am*
(Monday – Thursday) and 11.43am on a Friday however please note the core
learning session ends at 11.20am.

At the end of the afternoon session the nursery doors open ten minutes prior
to the end of the core session at 3.21pm. Parents are able to collect children
from this time onwards. FELC is provided after the core session when a late
snack is available for those who wish it; children must be picked up prior to
4.11 p.m* Please help us by ensuring that you or designated adults are not
late.
PM session (Mon-Thurs)
12.14pm – 3.21pm Core Learning Time
3.21pm – 4.11pm Flexible Early Learning with snack provided
Flexible Children (2 Full Day Session)
Flexible Children (Full day) - Some parents have opted to use West Lothian’s
Flexible Pre-School Provision which Glenvue offer. The provision consists of
two 8 hour sessions of early learning and childcare lasting from 8 a.m. to 4
p.m. Children must be collected at 4.00 pm* unless they have purchased
Wraparound care which will have been previously arranged. The option of
Wraparound care is only available to Full time
children at this time. There is a cost per
session, and this must be booked in advance
and paid for through the Pupil Placement
offices at the Civic Centre.
The staff have other responsibilities between the AM and PM sessions and at
the end of the day so do please ensure that you are on time to collect your
child.
*All children should be collected by the end of the nursery session. If
children are not collected then parents/emergency contacts will be
telephoned. However if no emergency contacts are available Nursery staff
are advised to contact social services.
6
Nursery Clothing
Glenvue have polo shirts, sweatshirts and sunhats available for purchase.
Order forms can be collected from the office
You can help your child to be independent by giving him/her named,
elasticated front or velcro fastening, gym shoes, and trousers
which can be easily (and quickly) pulled down (joggers.) Please
don’t have your child wearing good clothes for nursery and do
encourage him/her to dress himself/herself and put on shoes. This
prepares them for going to school where they will be expected to do this
independently. We are part of West Lothian’s Education provision and this is
one of the many ways in which we attempt to better prepare your child for
primary school. Please put your child’s name on all clothing or footwear which
may be removed during the school day.
Outdoor play and going for walks is also an important part of the nursery day.
In order that your child may enjoy this he/she should come to nursery with
warm outdoor clothing in the Winter.
7
Nursery Snack
Children enjoy preparing, tasting and eating the
health snacks which are available to all the
children in the nursery. A contribution of £1.50
per week is required per child. (Larger payments
in advance are also welcome).
Your child will have a healthy snack with us when
he/she is here during her Core Learning Session.
This is in addition to Breakfast or Afternoon
snack as part of the additional FELC time.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Publicity Photography is helpful in publicising the success of the school and
promoting educational initiatives. From time to time members of the press
and media are invited into schools to cover events celebrating success.
However, the views of parents who, for any reason, do not wish their children
to appear in such photographs will be respected at all times.
School Trips Photography by staff on school trips and visits may be used in
the curriculum and displayed within the school or at parents’ evenings to
illustrate the work of the school.
Events Parents and guests should check with the Head Teacher to ensure
that permission has been given for photographs to be taken.
School Photographer
Individual or group photographs are taken by staff
to record regular school events. Parents are asked in advance whether or not
they wish their children to be included in these events. Reputable commercial
photographers are involved and the law allows them to retain the copyright in
the photographs.
By now your child should have enrolled and it is important that all information
on the enrolment form is correct and up to date. Do please tell us if there
are changes to be made. Your child’s safety is so important that we would ask
you to remember that:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Only those named on the enrolment form may take your child from
nursery. So please think about this flexibly. Names may be added at a
later date if need be.
The person collecting the child must be 16 years or over.
The adult must bring the child right into the nursery making sure that a
qualified member of staff has welcomed him/her in through the
security doors.
If an emergency arises concerning your child and you or a nominated
person cannot be contacted, the Head Teacher will take such decisions
as are necessary in the circumstances.
Failure to collect your child at the end of session time will result in a
telephone call being made to contacts. However if no emergency contact
is available social services/Health Visitor may be called.
11
Toilet Training/Nappy changing facilities
If your child wets or soils him/herself whilst at nursery, he/she will be
changed by a member of staff and the wet/soiled clothes will be sealed in a
bag and put in your child’s tray. All members of staff are fully trained in
Child Protection Guidelines and follow the council policy on personal care.
The nursery will ensure that when children are changed both their physical
and emotional needs are met. Children will be changed regularly and promptly
and their changes documented accordingly. Parents are requested to supply
wet wipes, nappies and training pants.
Changing will occur only in the designated changing areas, which meet health,
hygiene and safety standards. The area respects the child’s right to privacy
yet is also easily supervised and accessible.
During potty/toilet training, nursery staff will encourage independence and
support the child with positive reinforcement. Toilet training will be
supported following discussions between a child’s key worker and their
parent/carer.
