September is National Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month. Your School Counselors will be going
into classrooms starting this week to students about symptoms of depression and suicide awareness. The
following link is a parent guide to teen depressions:
http://www.helpguide.org/articles/depression/teen-depression-signs-help.htm
On the McCord website under the Guidance section, you will find additional resources. Also, our
counselors newsletter next month will contain more information on this topic.
The School Counselors are starting to put together a program for students who have had someone in
their life who has passed away. If your child is interested in participating, please ask them to see Mrs.
Eggleston before next Tuesday morning for more information.
In Robotics 8, students are wiring solar panels in order to change hydrogen fuel cells. After the fuel cells
are charged by the power of the sun, they will be used to power a small electric motor.
Sra. Scott’s Spanish 1B classes are enjoying their new unit which focuses on describing families,
conjugating “er” and “ir” verbs and learning more about Mexico. Students will have brief presentations
about a cultural element or may choose to make food native to Mexico in the coming weeks.
Have your Spanish 1A student rap the Spanish-speaking capitals and countries of North and Central
America for you! They are also working on learning map locations and major bodies of water (in Spanish)
surrounding them. Did you know that geographers believe there are 5, 6, or 7 continents in the world
depending on where you live? In most of Europe, are six continents and in most Spanish -speaking
countries there are five. Ask your child why! Students have mastered numbers to 30 and beginning
conversational topics, they have listed to Good Night, Moon in Spanish and will be creating their personal
Spanish version of Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
