Type of Check
Description
Not a Negotiable Item
The submitted check image is not a check or is nonnegotiable (coupon, advertisement, etc.)
The submitted check is stale dated. Typically a check
is considered stale dated six months from the date of
issuance. However, checks may have reduced
negotiable periods as with insurance payments,
settlement, rebates, etc.
The check is drawn on a foreign financial institution or
in foreign currency. A domestic ABA Routing Number
recognized by the Federal Reserve Bank is required
for processing Mobile Deposits checks.
The check stipulates that more than one maker
signature is required for the check to be negotiated,
however only one maker signature is present.
The check has been stamped with a derogatory
comment from prior processing. Examples include
Non-Negotiable, NSF, Stop Payment and Duplicate
Presentment.
Check does not qualify as a negotiable item. Examples
include coupons and advertisements made to appear
like a check.
A previously negotiated check represents checks
which have been processed and paid using Mobile
Deposit, ATM, teller or mail on an prior date.
Checks which have been previously deposited and
returned to the Payee unpaid. Substitute checks are
typically printed on yellow paper stock and stamped
with a “copy in lieu of original” stamp. Substitute
checks must be brought to a Meriwest financial center
for processing.
Meriwest does not accept altered checks. Alterations,
can include dollar amount changes, changes to the
date of the check, or adjustments to signatures..
Savings Bonds must be negotiated in person at a
Meriwest financial center.
Meriwest does not accept any 3rd Party Checks for
deposit. Third party checks refer to checks which the
intended recipient has signed over to another, or third,
person.
Meriwest does not accept post-dated checks.
Postdating refers to checks written by the maker for a
future date.

 Missing Date, Stale Dated, Post Dated
 Missing Written (Legal) Amount
 Missing Numeric (Courtesy) Amount
 Missing or Incomplete Payee Endorsement

Step 2 - Enter the Amount
Once the deposit account is selected, enter the dollar amount of your deposit.
Larger deposit amounts do not require the use

The app software will read the check
value and validate to the dollar value
entered.
Step 3 - Take Photo of Check
The next step is to take photos of the front and back of your endorsed check. It is critical

Check Retention
Meriwest recommends original, processed checks be securely stored for 60 days.
Secure storage is a place safe from loss, theft, destruction or compromise.
Once the 60 day retention period has lapsed, the original check must be properly
destroyed eliminating any risk of compromise or re-presentment. Shredding and/or
burning the check are recommended for destruction. Do not place original checks in a
waste or recycle bin unless they have been shredded first.

Image Quality
All checks deposited through Mobile Deposit must meet quality standards set forth by
the Federal Reserve Bank and corresponding regulations. To ensure mobile deposits
are processed within these standards, Meriwest applies multiple quality assurance tests
to each deposited check. It is the user’s responsibility to capture clear and accurate
images of the check, including the front and back of the check.
If your deposited check image does not meet established Meriwest and Federal
Reserve Bank standards, the following steps can be taken to improve image quality.
When Capturing a Check Image:
 Place the check on a well-lit surface free of clutter. Placing the check too close
to the light source may result in overtly bright or shadowed images.
 The background should be any solid color flat surface. It is recommended that
dark surfaces be used for light colored checks and light surfaces be used for dark
colored checks.
 Keep the check edges within the frame on the screen. Make sure that nothing
else appears within the frame. Failure to properly align the check in the frame
may result in images missing sections of the check.
What is considered a Usable Check Image?
 The correct images are captured using the correct application screens. Verify
that the images match the applicable front and back requirements.
 The front and back check images display the entire check. Nothing else may
appear in the image.
 The front check image must clearly display the payee name, check dollar
amount, date, MICR line and maker signature. The back of your check must
have a proper endorsement.

Are my deposits limited?
Mobile Deposit permits one check per deposit. If you have several checks for deposit,
each check must be deposited individually. There is no limit to the number of deposits
you can submit in a day. However, Meriwest will use your account history, transaction
history and Credit Union relationship, along with other factors, to determine and assign
a daily and/or monthly deposit dollar amount limit.
Mobile RDC Guide
Page 17
Do I need to endorse my check?
All checks deposited through Mobile Deposit must be endorsed by the Payee. It is
required that the check Payee be an authorized signer on the deposit account. The
check should be endorsed with the following: Payee’s Signature, Account Number, Date
of Deposit and the notation “RDC” which represents Mobile Deposit.
Are my deposit amounts restricted?
Yes. Meriwest has determined the daily and monthly dollar amount limits for your
account. Your limits are the calculated result of your account history, transaction history,
relationship with the credit union and other factors. Your deposit limits may adjust as
your relationship with Meriwest grows or changes.
When can I make Mobile Deposits?
You may submit a Mobile Deposit any time of day or night. Mobile deposits received
before 4:30 pm PT Monday – Friday (except holidays) will be processed the same day.
Deposits received after the 4:30 pm PT cut off, or on non-business days, will be
processed the next business day. Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding
holidays.
What should I do with the check after I complete my deposit?
When you sign up for Mobile Deposit you agree to prominently mark each check as
“Electronically Presented” once the check has been deposited and accepted. This
ensures the check is not presented for payment a second time. You also agree to
securely store each original check for a period of sixty (60) days after the check has
been deposited. During this time, you must keep the original check in a secure location.
The check must be properly destroyed once the 60 day retention period has lapsed.
When will my deposit post to my account?
Generally, deposits submitted on a business day prior to 4:30 pm, PT, to an account
determined to be in good standing, will be posted the same day. Check deposits are not
processed on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. Normal holds and other restrictions
apply. Refer to our Account Disclosure and Deposit Agreement for complete details.
When will I have access to my funds?
Access to mobile deposit funds follow normal deposit hold and availability rules as
applied to all deposits received at Meriwest Credit Union.
If the deposit is received prior to the 4:30 pm PT cut off for that business day, it will be
posted to the account the same day. If the deposit is received after the 4:30 pm PT cut
off for the business day, it will be reviewed and posted to the account on the next
business day. Business days do not include Saturday, Sunday, or holidays.
For complete deposit restrictions, refer to our Account Disclosure and Deposit
Agreement.
Mobile RDC Guide
Page 18
How do I get a copy of my deposit?
If you need a copy of your Mobile Deposit transactions contact the Credit Union to
request copies of the checks.
I selected the wrong deposit account. What should I do?
You may complete a share to share transfer of funds within the Mobile Banking
application. You may also log into Meriwest Online Banking to move money from one
share to another. Select the “Transfers” option to transfer the funds to the correct
account. You may also utilize the Meriwest Customer Contact Center, a Meriwest ATM,
or financial center teller to move funds between your shares.
My deposit is complete but the money is not in my account. Why?
If the deposit is received prior to the 4:30 pm PT cut off for that business day, it will be
reviewed and posted to your account the same day. If the deposit is received after the
4:30 pm PT cut off for the business day, it will be reviewed and posted to the account on
the next business day. Business days do not include Saturday, Sunday, or holidays.
For complete deposit restrictions, refer to our Account Disclosure and Deposit
Agreement.
Can I use Mobile Deposit for deposits to alternate accounts?
Mobile Deposit can be used to process check deposits to accounts under your personal
membership only. If you need the funds deposited to an alternate membership where
you are a joint owner, you’ll need to deposit the funds first to your own account and then
transfer the funds using either the Mobile Banking application or Meriwest Online
Banking.
I just received a “time out” error. What does this mean?
A time out error can be received whenever data connectivity at the smart phone or
mobile device is compromised or weak. Typically, changing locations will improve signal
strength and allow the deposit to process. However certain geographic areas with weak
or absent cellular or Wi-Fi access may prevent normal Mobile Deposit processing. Also,
a failure to maintain a current data plan with a cellular network may prevent successful
Mobile Deposit processing.
