Minehead Youth Hostel
Easter trip
………looking ahead!
February
2015
This is what YHA says about the area:
Whether you're exploring the area on foot, taking to two
wheels or simply sitting around trying to spot the local
abundance of British wildlife, YHA Minehead is one of the best
country retreats you could hope to find for a trip! Based in a
beautiful country house in Somerset's Exmoor hills, it's one of
the more active getaway destinations - though the plush
surroundings of the centre provide plenty of relaxation at the
end of a busy day.
So Postellers won't be short of things to do in and around
Minehead and there are lots of cycling tracks around the
countryside, so there could be a chance of some mountain
biking.
There is exciting exploring to do on Exmoor (you may even meet
the Easter Bunny) and by the sea on the South West Coast
Path with some amazing sights on the way. Sandy beaches are
also just a short stroll away – too cold for swimming though!

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST TRIP TO OXFORD
This month we ventured to Oxford. The journey from London
took us nearly an hour and a half. Once we got out of the
minibus we rushed to the park where I got an egg and a golf
ball (my number one choice of Oxford souvenirs ) We
wanted to go to the climbing frame and swings but
unfortunately they were shut due to safety reasons. Instead
we played football, frisbee and tried climbing a tree. Climbing
a tree is not as easy as it looks. Believe it or not some trees
have holes and I nearly slipped into one. Soon after we got
picked up and taken to the Youth Hostel which in my opinion
was very clean new and modern. The first thing on our minds
however had to be dinner. I was craving for some noodles my
mom packed. We all had food and were looking forward to the
play later in the evening.
Afterwards we wanted to walk along the River Thames. We
saw Oxford University students rowing. We also saw loads of
ducks but they didn’t seem to be training for anything, they
were just paddling around not caring for anyone. Me and
Nathan got extremely muddy as we ran through puddles.
Suddenly we realised we couldn’t see
any more Postellers. We ran after them
and before we knew it we were back in
the minibus going to London. Another
great Postellers adventure! I can’t wait
for the next trip.

Thanks Alexey for a brilliant write-up.
Blenheim Palace Park
We went to watch the pantomime Beauty and the Beast. I
was very excited as I haven’t watched Beauty and the Beast
before. The best part of the play was that everybody in the
audience could join in. After the play finished we waited
outside to get autographs from the actors. We didn’t manage
to get any so we went to the Youth Hostel, played pool for a
little while and then tired from the day’s activities hit the
bed. We nearly overslept for breakfast but luckily Chris
woke us up and we just made it on time. After breakfast we
got ready to leave for a really cool tour of Oxford which was
fun. One of the places we visited was Oxford University. It
is an amazing historic place and I have never seen a
university like that before. When I went inside I felt like
Harry Potter, all I needed was the magic wand and a wizard’s
hat!
