Last Meeting April 2nd Graham Taylor
At our last meeting Graham Taylor
stepped in at short notice to be our guest
speaker. Graham’s entertaining presentation was entitled “You Can’t Explain
That” and he explored the stupid and
annoying things people say and some
common day things, things that we take
for granted perhaps for absolutely no
logical reason.
He challenged members with thought provoking questions such as; what did the designer of the drawing board
go back to when his original design was a failure, how do
you know when it's time to tune bagpipes and what is an
occasional table used for the rest of the time when it’s not
being a table?
Graham further explained that the litigious society that we
now live in has led to some very interesting and humorous product warnings. It
was pointed out that most of the manufacturers have issued the warnings because someone has actually attempted the thing that they are warning
against. That in itself is just something that CAN’T be explained. For instance
why is necessary for a dog shampoo manufacturer to caution consumers not
to feed their product to fish, or the aerosol, air freshener supplier that warns its
product must only be used by trained personnel or the producer of TV remotes
who wants its customers to know that the remote is not dishwasher safe.

Thanks Graham for bringing a few smiles and laughs to the Club.
Exciting News!!!!
Club web site
Our web site now has its own domain address,
which is: www.rotaryclubofkenthurst.org.au
This address will direct prospective visitors to our site. Also, the Rotary Down
Under / Rotary News address, which has a capacity to divert potential visitors
to a site that is not operational, now has a link automatically redirecting them
to www.rotaryclubofkenthurst.org.au
The Club’s site is still not being picked up by web crawlers; it may take a little
time for indexing to occur. In the meantime, the more links pointing to our site,
the more rapidly our site will become readily searchable. If members with business web sites are willing to provide a link to our web page, this would accelerate the process.
New issues of the Klarion will
now be accessible before meetings by clicking on the Menu Bar
of the Club web site. A limited
number of hard copies may continue to be distributed at meetings. The web version of the
Klarion may differ slightly from
the hard copy edition (e.g. member birthdays and anniversaries
will not be shown on line). Past
editions of the Klarion will remain
accessible in an on line archive.
The archive will serve both as a
record of what we’re doing and
keep members who are away or
who have been absent readily up
to date.
In preparation for sponsorship to
defray costs, the next stage of
our web strategy will be to implement visitor tracking. This will
facilitate an analysis of visitor
frequency. Sponsorship will become more valuable to us, once we can
demonstrate that we are attracting a reasonable amount of traffic.

M.u.n.a.
is part of an International Rotary project to educate senior high
school students (years 10 - 12) on the United
Nations organisation and its vital commitment
to world peace along with health, education
and living standards around the world.
MUNA helps students to develop public speaking and debating skills along with the study of
the customs, culture and problems of the
world's nations.
Delegates attend MUNA wearing the national
dress of the country they represent.
Kenthurst Rotary Club has proudly sponsored
a team from Tara Anglican School for Girls .
Peter Pearce director of ShelterBox Australia and ShelterBox Response Team member, is in training to run the London Marathon
on 22nd April in aid of his beloved charity.
Peter, a retired financial advisor and Rotarian
from Terrigal will complete the 26 mile course
with a specially adapted ShelterBox on his
back.
As part of his training, Peter is walking the
coastal path around his native Cornwall. Peter said, “I’m passionate about ShelterBox
and their disaster relief work, I’ve deployed
with them 10 times and seen firsthand the
positive impact they have on people who’ve
lost everything. By running the London Marathon with a ShelterBox on my back I hope to gain us valuable exposure and
raise a decent amount of money to enable us to carry on our valuable work”.
Peter will be at our Club on may 28th as our Guest speaker. Peter will be talking about an upcoming trip to Madagascar and some of the work he and a
team of Rotarians will be doing there.

Market Day at Regal Gardens
The Kenthurst Community Mens Shed inc
Saturday April 14th
8:00am to 3:00pm
We held our first meeting in the Scout Hall soon to be the home of
the Kenthurst Community Men's Shed on Saturday 14 April 2012.
We now have the keys and our lease has been confirmed with The
Hills Shire Council. We can now move forward and arrange to get
the work done to get the project up and running.
A family fun day was held
last Saturday at Regal
Gardens in Annangrove.
Regal Gardens hosted a
handicraft, fresh produce and farmers market.
The most important work is
the replacement of the roof
and the installation of a disabled toilet facility and this
week the council is having
engineers check the roof and
they will come up with a plan
to restore the roof and install
the toilet .
Our Rotary club put on a BBQ for all the hungry
patrons.
Paul did a wonderful job organising the day and
had great team support by many members of the
club. Thanks to everyone who helped and supported and made this a great day.
Well Done Team!

Kenthust Men’s Shed
Local builders will be given the chance to quote on these projects
initially and a number of local builder, Rotarians and residents
have offered their expertise and labour to undertake these building
projects.
In addition John B, has offered the Saturday crew will help when
heavy work is needed.
We were encouraged by the number of men who came to this
meeting as they were not at the first meeting held in Kenthurst
Park late last year, so I believe that we can expect over 40 men
will join.
I will keep all interested parties up to date with how things are going and in the near future we will have to elect a committee to run
the facility.
I wish to thank again our local member Ray Williams and the NSW
Government for their donation off $12,000.00 and The Hills Shire
Council for their generous donation of $30,000.00 and support in
this local project which as the numbers show is needed in our community.

Membership Questionarie
be eligible for great prizes
Thank you to all the members that have completed and returned their Questionaries.
If you haven’t yet returned your completed membership
questionnaire, please do so on Monday evening. Club
Secretary, Graham Taylor will collect completed surveys.
The aim of the questionnaire is to give all members an opportunity to have a
say in various aspects of Rotary. We would like you to tell us things you like
and don’t like.
The survey covers several areas of Rotary but there may be other things you
wish to comment on - please do this. We will compile the responses graphically and present them at a future meeting.
We encourage everyone to participate as only then can we
get a true indication about some of the issues and also understand things you really enjoy.
