One Snowy Night
On one snowy night it was snowing like a blizzard. When it calmed down, Sammy, Joey, Alexa, Nicholas
and I went outside and the adults came out too. We made
snowmen with hats, stick buttons, and fake coal. Then we
went inside because it was getting cold. So as we settled
we had hot cocoa. And after that all the kids went into the
play room. The guys were watching TV. The ladies were
in the kitchen talking. All of a sudden the lights went out.
It was about 9:30 PM. We got out flashlights, blankets, and
pillows. Then we told scary stories and Christmas stories. We started a fire. We
stayed at their house until 1:00 in the morning.

This is how my family celebrates Christmas.
We all gather in a house. Each person brings a different food to eat. All us kids
go and play while the parents talk to each other. Then when it’s time to open the
presents the parents decide which one of the dads has to dress up as Santa Claus.
So to get our presents we have to sit on Santa’s lap.
When we’re done we go and

eat. As for the kids who

don’t want to eat, they go
and play. The parents go and
dance down in the basement.
Finally everyone goes back
to their house and my brother
and I go to sleep to awaken
to more presents!

I like the Christmas holiday because my birthday is
on Christmas. I get lots of presents. In my stocking
I get candy and sometimes a stuffed animal. A lot
of people say I am a special girl. I never got coal
yet. My family and I celebrate on Christmas Eve. I
get money from my family. Christmas is a fun
holiday.

Brittany’s
Family Traditions

On Christmas Eve I go to my Mom’s
Dad’s clubhouse. We eat and have
some snacks first. Then we have a
Talent Show. This year I am doing a
combination of gymnastics, dance and
cheer. Those are all my favorite sports.
Then we hang out a little more. Then
we leave and go to bed. The next
morning, I wake up and there are
presents under the tree. I wake up my mom and dad and start opening up
presents. And I play with them. That’s my family tradition.

Snow, snow, let it snow.
Snow is beautiful.
You can see it fall.
I love snow.
I love snow.
Because I can make a snow angel
And I can make a snowman
And have hot cocoa.
Snow, snow, let it snow!

Every New Year’s Day my family wakes up
early and goes to Downtown Chicago to see
the Christmas windows on State. We bring hot
chocolate and doughnuts in Dad’s truck. We
wear warm clothes and mittens because it is
very cold. My daddy works downtown. We
are so amazed at how empty and quiet the
streets are. No one else is looking at the windows. We have State Street to ourselves. My
favorite Christmas tree is at the Daley Center.
I think it is taller than Erickson.

There was a snowman he could not wait
until tonight. It was Christmas. When he went
to sleep and a few minutes later he heard bells. It
was Santa! He went on sleeping. In the morning
he saw a present! He opened the present. It was
what he wanted. A bell for his sleigh.

Find the Pickle
On Christmas I go to my grandma’s house. We play a
lot of fun games, but my favorite game is Hide the
Pickle. I have been told it is a German tradition. The
game is played by the whole family. One person hides the pickle ornament in
the Christmas tree and the other people look for it. The person who finds it wins
the pickle ornament.

Summer is done. It is getting cold. Leaves are gone and snow is falling. Ice is
hanging, fires are burning. We are making snowmen and snow angels. And also
you are having snowball fights!

Once there was a boy who broke his leg and could not attend a Christmas fair.
His favorite holiday was Christmas because he loved the presents people gave
him. He was a lonely child with a mom and dad and no brothers or sisters. Today he was sad because he could not attend the fair. His favorite thing to do at
the fair was meet new people. Then his Dad had an idea. He could buy his son
an early Christmas present. He could buy a wheel chair. And when his son saw
the wheelchair he “ood” and “ahd” at the chair. He was so happy he missed the
fair.
