Parent Notes
If your child’s end of day
routine is changing on any
given day please send a note to
the school and bus driver if
applicable, so that we know
about the change. This could
involve riding on a bus they
don’t normally ride on or being
picked up by someone who does
not usually pick them up. If
students do not have a note
letting us know they will be
required to follow their regular
routine. Thanks for your
assistance in this matter.
Principal’s Message
Happy Halloween! I hope everyone enjoyed all the ghosts and goblins
who visited on Saturday night. The students enjoyed parading around
the gym showing off their costumes to all in attendance. We also went
to the Good Sam Centre so the seniors could see all the latest costumes.
The seniors enjoyed seeing all the kids dressed up. Welcome to Mrs.
Kelsey Tuttle, who is teaching mornings in Grade One Phys. Ed in the
afternoons, until Christmas Break. I (Ms. Collard) will be Acting
Principal until January 4th when Mr. Gray returns. November is shaping
up to be another busy month. Farm Safety presentations will be on
Tuesday, November 3rd. We have our annual Remembrance Day
ceremony taking place on Tuesday, November 10th at 11 am, please feel
free to attend. We will also be hosting another Evansview Breakfast
club on the 17th of the month. Save the date - our annual Christmas
concert will be taking place on Thursday, December 10th. If you have
any items that you wish to discuss, my door is always open.
Kindergarten
There is no
Kindergarten on
Thursday,
November 19th.
Remembrance Day
Evansview School will be honoring
Canada’s Veterans on Tuesday,
November 10th, at 11a.m. with a
Remembrance Day assembly. All
parents and community members are
welcome to attend.
News For You From Evansview
Influenza Season
With the change in seasons come colds and influenza.
As you are aware schools can be excellent breeding
grounds for bugs. In order to help reduce the amount
of illness, flu shots are available at no cost to your entire
family. Flu shots are available through the health unit. If
your child is sick please keep them home until they are
feeling better. Also, please encourage your children to
cover their sneezes up with either a tissue or their
sleeve; hand washing is another way to help reduce the
spread of these pesky bugs! If your child is away we will
contact you to ensure that your child is home safe or
you can call the school at 780-727-3623 or email our
secretary at [email protected] If they are away more
than one day we will not contact you on the second day
as we will assume that your child is still not feeling well.

Winter weather
Winter weather will be here soon. Please ensure that your children are dressed for the weather. Students are
expected to go outside at recess unless the weather is too severe. For those students who ride the bus please
be aware that the bus driver may refuse to transport a student to school who does not have appropriate
footwear, head-gear, coat and gloves or mitts. Before refusing to take a student because of inappropriate
attire on a morning pick-up, the driver must contact the parent and/or the Principal to explain the reason the
child will not be picked up in the future when inappropriately dressed. Children often forget how cold it can
get and do not always wear clothing that keeps them warm enough to help keep colds and other bugs at bay.
School Fees
Evansview PAC
Parents of students attending Evansview are
charged $70 per year for school fees. The fees
are used to purchase materials that are used
directly by students for a variety of activities
ranging from art activities to science projects. All
of the fees collected stay at the school and all
unpaid fees result in the school receiving less
money. Fees can be paid at the school office; as
well arrangements can be made to pay off the
fees in monthly installments. The family rate is
$245. If you are unable to pay the fees please
contact the school to go over other options.
There are also forms available at the office or on
GYPSD website that can be filled out to apply
for a reduction of the school fees. Thank you
for your co-operation in this matter.
Evansview Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is moving days! Our breakfasts
will now be on selected Tuesdays, rather than
Fridays. As mentioned in the Principal’s message
we will be hosting another Evansview Breakfast
Club on Tuesday, November 17th, from 8:15 to
8:45 am. We hope you are able to join us for
another free hot breakfast in later this month.

Welcome to the 2015 PAC Executive!
President- Angela Miko 727-4605
Vice President- Jackie McKinnon
Secretary- Jen McCallum
Treasurer- Jen King
Our next PAC meeting will be taking
place on Monday November 24th at
7pm in the library. You can earn 5
points for your child’s house by
simply attending. We hope to see you
there.
Crosswalk
If you are dropping off or picking up
students at the beginning or end of the
day please use the crosswalk on the
corner. We do not want our students
cutting in between buses and crossing
the road. This is potentially a very
dangerous activity. Oncoming traffic
may not see a tiny person which
could result in a very tragic accident.
Thank you for your assistance in this
matter.

Routine for Buses
Two years ago our school division implemented a provincial policy of having
the buses turn on their red lights at those schools without a designated bus
lane, when they are dropping off and picking up students at the start and
end of each school day. I have noticed that some people are not stopping
when the bus lights are flashing. This usually happens at the end of the day
and if the person does not regularly pick up a student from our school.
Please let anyone picking your child up know that if the school buses red
lights are flashing, even though they are parked by the school they are
required by law to stop, failure to do so can be a very expensive ride.
Please be advised that if you pass the bus when the lights are
flashing that it is a $402 fine and 6 demerits. If you have any
questions regarding this please feel free to ask.
Vision
Classroom learning is 80% visual. There is information everywhere – on whiteboards, in books and on signs.
Students not seeing well are not performing to their full potential. In Alberta all children between birth and 19
years of age can receive free, annual eye examinations by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. In addition,
financial resources are available for glasses:
• Vision Care Plan through employment or Insurance Plan.
• Supports for Independence.
• Treaty Benefits.
• Alberta Child Health Benefit for children from low income families.
Call 780-427-6848 for more information.
If resources for children’s glasses are a difficulty for families, contact your local school nurse.
Eye See…Eye Learn is a community based eye health awareness program for children in kindergarten. Free
eyeglasses for kindergarten children are available should they need them. For more information visit:

Houses Of Evansview
All of the houses are approaching the 100 point mark! Once the houses
get to 200 points they will receive a reward for their efforts. We had our
annual Halloween dress up day on Friday. All of the houses earned
points depending on how many house members had a costume. We will
soon be holding our annual Houses of Evansview Christmas food bank
contest. We will be setting up boxes for donations later this month and
each house will be able to earn up to 60 points for their house. The
students have also been earning Gotchas for random acts of kindness.
Keep it up Evansview!

It can sometimes be a challenge to ensure that
the school newsletter makes it into your
hands. In our busy lives things sometimes get
forgotten or lost. A possible solution is to
have the newsletter e-mailed directly to you.
If this sounds like something that you would
like to participate in simply send me an email, my e-mail address is [email protected]
and indicate that you would like to start
receiving the newsletter electronically. I will
add your name to the mailing list. Any e-mail
addresses given to me for this purpose will
not be used nor given out for any other

2015-16 Peacekeeping Program Update
We are pleased to announce that 14 new
students have enrolled in the program this
year, which raises our total to 23. After
demonstrating competency in the training
program, they will help the school staff
monitor the K-3 playground at noon recess.
These students show younger children that
minor disputes can be resolved peacefully,
and without aggression.
Newspaper Club
The Evansview Newspaper club is starting this month, and we have 17
members this year! This club makes monthly school newspapers about
anything from facts of the month to current events. They will go out the
first week of each month. Hope everyone enjoys reading them.
