Matter - Chapter 6
Lesson Two
Physical Changes in Matter
1
Section One - States of Matter
There are three states of matter: solid
liquid
gas
2
Changes of state occur when a substance changes from
one state to another.
Each change has a name.

melting

3
Matter is made up of particles. These particles are always moving.
ice solid (close together, vibrate in place)
hese are each made of the same
kind of particles,
but the particles move different in
each state
and are either close together or far
apart.
T
water liquid
(further apart and move easily)
water vapor gas
(fly all over the place and
move very quickly)
4
Physical changes
A physical change is a change that does not result in a new
