OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF NEVADA
RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 5-11, 2012 AS
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL'S"WORLD INTERACT WEEK"IN
NEVADA COUNTY AND RECOGNIZING INTERACT'S 50TH
ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS,Interact is a Rotary service organization for youth ages 12 — 18; and
WHEREAS,Interact clubs foster leadership skills and an awareness of the needs in local
communities and internationally; and
WHEREAS,the first Interact club was chartered on November 5, 1962, and today there
are over 250,000 Interact members in 110 countries; and
WHEREAS,in Western Nevada County, Nevada Union High School Interact Club was
chartered in 1997, and the Interact clubs at Lyman Gilmore Middle School and at Seven Hills
Middle School were chartered in 2010; and
WHEREAS,combined, these clubs have over 60 youth members who perform a variety of
community and international service projects following the Rotary International motto of"Service
above Self;" and
WHEREAS,some of these projects include raising funds for Rotary International's "End
Polio Now" campaign, supporting "Adopt a Family" at the holidays, collecting books for
international projects in Uganda and Papua New Guinea, being international pen pals with
students in Padua New Guinea, serving meals at Hospitality House, helping youth in Colima,
Mexico with literacy and dental projects so that children there can stay in school, and spreading
the "Anti-Bullying" message through Bully Buttons,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Nevada proclaims the week of November 5-11, 2012 as Rotary International's "World
Interact Week" in Nevada County, and recognizes the organization on its 50` anniversary.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Nevada at a regular meeting of
said Board, held on the 23rd day of October, 2012, by the following vote of said Board:
