3RD GRADE (ENTERING 4TH GRADE) Monday Tuesday June Wednesday Thursday Friday 6 Plan on logging all your summer reading beginning today. Read for 20 minutes and write the title- author-amount of time read 7 Write as many ice cream flavors you can think of and put them in ABC order. 8 Word GameCreate as many words as you can from the word Watermelon 9 Create a joke book using jokes from your family and friends 10 Take a walk- make a list of all of the things you see that remind us summer is near 13 Record what time the sun sets today in your journal. 14 Word Game- invent a code (A=1, B=2, etc) and write a note to a friend using the secret code. Send it to them with the key. 15 What does the word swelter mean? Look it up and write the meaning of the word along with a picture in your journal. 16 Choose 10 adjectives (describing words) and write synonyms (same meaning) for each. Example: big-large 17 Make a list of zoo animals. Sort them in different categories by color or type. 20 Design a menu of your favorite summer treats. Persuade someone in your family to make one with you. 21 Write a spooky story. Wait until dark and read it with the lights out using just a flashlight. 22 Read for 20 minutes today 23 Word GameMake a list of all the out of state license plates you see and locate each place on a map. 24 Plan a backyard camping adventure. Ask an adult if you can make it together. 4 Word Game: Make a list of adjectives (describing words) to describe fireworks. Write them in your journal. 5 An animal has escaped from the zoo. Make up a story about it in your journal. 6 Listen to some jazz music today. Write in your journal about how it makes you feel. 7 What does the word speculate mean? Look it up. Use it to write a short story. 8 Listen to mom or dad read a story. 11 Make a collage of a book you have read this summer. 12 Plan a dream vacation in your notebook. Write down all the things you would like to do on this vacation. Locate the place you want to go on a map. 19 Create a comic strip with illustrations. You can use characters that already exist or make up your own. 13 Write down as many verbs (action words) that you have done this summer in your journal. Then make them past tense. (for example- swimswam) 20 Read for 20 minutes today. 14 Create a tweet about your favorite book. (less than 140 letters) 15 Go into a room in your house and write all the nouns you see in your journal. Then make the nouns plural. (add s or es to make them mean more than one.) 22 Create a play for you and some friends to perform. 26 Swap and read books with a neighbor or friend today. 27 Word GameMake as many words from the letters of the word vacation. 28 Write 10 adjectives that describe you. 18 Write a letter to your best friend. 25 Play hangman with your family. 21 Read a non-fiction book today and write down new facts you learned in your journal. 29 Come up with 5 adjectives. Write in your journal. Tuesday 2 Read a book and make a double bubble comparing yourself to one of the characters. (How are you alike? Different?) 9 Read for 20 minutes today. 15 Read for 20 minutes today. 16 Write a rap song in your journal about a book you read this summer. 22 Count how many reading activities you did this summer. Write the number in your notebook. What was your favorite reading activity? 23 First day of school! August Wednesday 3 Demonstrate a random act of kindness. Write in your journal about what you did and how it made you feel. 10 Today is National S’mores Day. Ask an adult to help you make this treat. 17 Learn how to say, “Hello, my name is…” in another language. Thursday 4 Draw a map of your neighborhood and label your house as well as your friends’ houses. 11 Write a letter to your new teacher telling her about yourself. 18 How many books did you read this summer? What was your favorite and least favorite. Record in your journal. Friday 5 Record what time the sun sets today. Compare that with the time you recorded in June. Are they the same? Explain. 12 Go outside and read under the shade of a tree. 19 Go out and play. Summer is almost over.
