First and foremost it’s you, the parents of SD42 – interested in each child’s growth and development, specifically as it pertains to the French language - and, supporting this growth through membership in your local CPF and through volunteerism. Having said this, the executive members of your local Ridge-Meadows CPF chapter would like to take this opportunity to introduce themselves to you. President: Alison Ailles Hi, my name is Alison Ailles. I am an enthusiastic parent new to French Immersion. I appreciated the French Movie Festival and Parent Survival Night that the local CPF make happen and wanted to see opportunities like this continue. As president of Ridge-Meadows CPF Chapter, I am able to work toward ensuring such experiences are available to share with the French Immersion students of SD42 and more. Eric Langton – Christine Cavalaris Co-President: Christine Cavalaris Laity View – Ivana Perera Hi, my name is Christine. This year I’m sharing the president position with Alison. I’ve been involved with CPF for 10 years. My first year, I took over the treasurer’s position and I’ve taken on different roles through the years. I’ve run many book sales and organized many film festivals in addition to representing our chapter at CPF’s AGM in BC. I’m passionate about helping with this fantastic non-profit organization - I saw firsthand how my husband benefited in business and friendships with his ability to communicate in two languages. I love meeting new parents and always encourage them in their decision to pursue French Immersion for their child. My message is to give it time, use the resources offered online and your child will thrive. I am currently the vice president for our CPF chapter. I first got involved with CPF when my two older children were enrolled in Late French Immersion (LFI). Our third child just started the LFI program at Golden Ears Elementary. I am a firm supporter of LFI as it has shown to offer not only the opportunity to acquire a second language and culture but also present our children with intellectual challenge and a structured path to develop strong and lasting work habits. A Little Humour: Teacher asks: Peux- tu nous citer les quatres éléments ? Student answers: Oui. Le feu, la terre, l’air et…..???? Teacher hints: Celui qui te sert à te laver … Student replies with confidence: Ah oui, le savon ! It was a ‘very informative’ evening according to one of the attendees at the event, as tips, ideas and practical advice on how to help your child succeed in French were shared with 25 parents new to the world of French Immersion. Thank you to Sallie Boschung, our presenter, the volunteers and of course the parents who came out. Ridge-Meadows CPF Book Fair : CPF Book Fair is an event offered by Ridge-Meadows CPF to give parents an opportunity to explore a sampling of French resources for their children in a comfortable setting and perhaps add to their home libraries. This year it was held during the month of November at Laity View Elementary, Eric Langton Elementary and Pitt Meadows Elementary. Lisons Ensemble: Lisons Ensemble Fall 2015 is now complete. This French mentorship program for Grades 2 and 3 French Immersion students ran 130 one on one sessions over six weeks this fall with the help of our MRSS big buddies, the Maple Ridge Library, CPF and Bryanne Lane - our student coordinator.
