Physical description
This reserve can be accessed from Kenmore and Tavistock Streets. The open mown
area slopes from Kenmore Street in the direction of Tavistock Street with large flat
areas existing towards Tavistock Street. An undeveloped parcel exists to the north
which is a currently scrub.
Tangata whenua interests
This reserve is within the tribal rohe of Te Atiawa Iwi and Nga Mahanga a Tairi. The
area is of historic and cultural significance to Ngati Te Whiti and Te Kotahitanga o
Nga Mahanga a Tairi.
Land status and history
Lot 87 and 88 were originally held for state housing purposes by the crown. The land
was set apart as reserve classified recreation reserve under the Reserves Act in 1982.
At this time the land was also vested in the New Plymouth City Council. The under
lying title remains with the crown.
Lot 76 (the main playground area) was vested as recreation reserve in the New
Plymouth City Council in 1977 upon subdivision.

Existing improvements
A playground exists in two parts at the Northern End, along with park benches. A
timber barrier exists on the Tavistock Street front.
Uses and activities
This reserve is suitable for child’s play, picnicking and casual recreational activities.
In the summer local residents mow a cricket wicket.

This reserve will continue to be maintained and developed as an open space
area suitable for child’s play and casual recreation.
Native revegetation is proposed on the parcel to the north.
