What do we know now?
The children informed me that: Grandma, crown, a queen is a wife to a king, her majesty, princess, princes, lives in a castle
What do you want to learn?
The children generated questions about the topic therefore my planning has gone along with this where possible see sessions below.
How do we want to do this?
Trips, design and making, tea party.
Week 1: Is she alive?
Learners will begin to make inferences from information presented to them. Learners will identify, represent & estimate numbers. Learner will compare /
order numbers, inc. < > = . Learners will produce a fact file on Queen Victoria. Learners will look at Queen Victoria’s family tree. Learners will produce work
for the school website.
Week 2: Did someone hurt her? Was there a disaster?
Learners will investigate the attempted assaination of Queen Victoria. Learners will ask & answer questions; make predictions and begin to make inferences.
Learners will take part ‘Conscience Alley’ to discuss the event.
Week 3: What did she eat?
Learners will research historical events and replicate some historical reciepes. Learners will know and use standard measures. Learners will produce a write
up for the school website.
Week 4: How has Queen Victoria’s reign affect our lives today?
Learners will compare the lives of those from different periods including:
1842 -Mines Act- children under age 10 prevented from going into mines.
1870- schools provided for 5-10 yr olds 1880 Eductaion Act made it compulsory for children to go to school between the age of 5-10
1878- electricity replaced gas lamps in London.
1883- first electric railway
Week 5: What was life like in Victorian Britain?- trip to visit Beamish.
Learners will experience first hand life in Victorian Britain. Visiting the school / mine and possible experience Easter in Victorian times. Write up for the
school website.
