The number one way of chasing away a bad
mood is to exercise. Just a few minutes of movement
increases energy and reduces tension. So, get up and get
going with these three easy ways to work out.

TM
GO FOR A WALK: Walk around your neighborhood or
outside your office for twenty minutes. It’s good to take
a break from the daily grind and get a little exercise.
TAKE THE STAIRS: Forget the elevator! Choose the stairs
instead to exercise on the way to your next meeting.
PARK IT: Instead of parking the car close to where you’re
going, park farther away and walk the extra distance. A
few extra steps go a long way!

hearty breakfast, don’t skip lunch and enjoy a light,
satisfying dinner at least 2-3 hours before bed.
Move it for zzzzs: Regular exercise promotes
sleep. Active exercise during the day will help you get
a good night’s rest. Just don’t engage in very active
aerobic exercise right before bedtime.
Scale back screen time: Watching TV or
using your computer right before bedtime could
hinder relaxing and
falling asleep. Read a
calming, undemanding
book for a few minutes to
relax and tire your eyes,
helping you set aside things
that are worrying you.
source: Robin Kline, MS, RD, CCP
Nix the nightcap: Whether it’s diet cola or a glass of
wine, both caffeine and alcohol disturb sleeping the night
through. If you want to sip something, make it a cup of hot
herbal (no caffeine) tea or enjoy hot milk with a touch of
vanilla and nutmeg.
Restful routine: Create a relaxing routine that helps
your psyche get ready for rest. Read a poem, stretch in your
jammies or listen to soothing music.
Create comfort: Beautiful bedtime requires a dark,
quiet, comfortable and cool environment. Clean, soft sheets,
a comfortably cool room temperature and light-blocking
shades will make your bedroom inviting for good rest. If you’re
prone to staring at the clock, move it so you can’t see its face.
Sleep like a baby: Babies have bedtimes and so should
you. Adopt a regular bedtime that fits your schedule and
stick to it throughout the week. Sleep researchers suggest
that keeping a routine bedtime most of the time will help
you get a good night’s rest.

START SMART with yoga
One of the best ways to start the day is with a
series of simple yoga exercises. Take just five minutes
each morning to center and relax—you’ll notice a big
difference in how you approach other tasks throughout
the day!
SPINAL STRETCH: Sitting cross-legged,
press your sit bones (derrière) into the
floor and lengthen your spine, reaching
up with the crown of your head. Keep
both sit bones on the floor while you do
this stretch. Place your left hand on your right knee, inhale
and lengthen your spine. Then exhale and twist to the
right. Breathe, return to center, switch sides and repeat.

CAT TILT: Come onto all fours with your
wrists under your shoulders and your knees
under your hips. Lengthen your spine,
reaching the crown of your head toward
the wall in front of you and your tailbone toward the wall
behind you. Inhale deeply, then exhale and round your
back up toward the ceiling like an angry cat, drawing your
chin toward your navel. On the next inhale, arch your back,
dropping your belly toward the floor, lifting your sit bones
and collarbones while gazing up toward the ceiling. Repeat
this sequence three times.
PUPPY DOG: From all fours, press your
hands and fingers into the floor, tuck your
toes and lift your hips up and back. Keeping
both knees bent, breathe and “wag your
tail.” Then bring one heel toward the floor, straightening
that leg behind you. Breathe, then bend that knee and
straighten the other leg. Finish off with a resting pose.
Sit or lie quietly and tune in to your breathing for several
minutes. Remember to smile—it’s great “mouth yoga” that
brightens your face and your mood.

Some of the best body and spirit boosting
behaviors are based on what you should be adding to your
day, not avoiding! Remember, taking care of yourself
requires just as much energy and enthusiasm as it does
to take care of others in your life.
EAT MORE FIBER-RICH FOODS: Fiber
promotes digestive health, which is vital
to overall health and disease prevention.
It’s easy to grab a glass of crisp, delicious
PlumSmart® juice in the morning and take
care of your daily dose of fiber before your
day even begins.
CHOOSE YOUR BEVERAGE CAREFULLY: Drinking
water and unsweetened tea throughout the day keeps skin
hydrated from the inside out, encourages the elimination
of toxins and improves cell turnover.
EAT COLORFUL FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: These
foods decrease inflammation in your skin, reduce wrinkles,
help prevent hangnails and
broken nails, and give hair
luster and vitality.
TAKE FIVE: Soothe away
stress before it gets to you
by listening to calming
music or simply phoning
a friend to catch up.
snack healthier
During your busy day, it can be difficult to find
healthy and delicious snacks. At Sunsweet,® we pride
ourselves on products that deliver that promise. Following
are a few tips to easily incorporate healthy snacks into your
day. These simple changes to your diet
will boost your energy and provide the
nutrients your body needs.

Simple changes to your

fruits and vegetables play an important
part in healthy snacking. It’s optimal to
plan around what’s currently in season
because out-of-season produce is sometimes imported,
expensive and often tasteless. Dried fruit provides a nutritious
and more shelf-stable option year round.
Boost Energy: It’s easy to grab a cookie or muffin when
our energy wanes at the office. But as a habit, they take a
big bite out of our energy reserves. Instead, try Sunsweet
Ones,™ individually wrapped prunes— they’re a portable and
delicious source of whole fiber.
”
Curb Your Appetite: Skipping meals causes us to
lose touch with our bodies’ natural hunger cues. When
meal time finally arrives we tend to eat too much and
choose the wrong things (because we are so hungry).
Factoring in small snacks between meals helps keep our
appetite in check, our hunger satisfied and helps us make
healthier choices at all of our meals. Try our new trail mix
recipe for an easy, healthy and tasty treat on-the-go!
