WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SUMMER CAMPS AT RECREATION OAK BAY:
Leadership: Camp leaders are selected for their experience,
abilities and dedication to providing every camper with a safe, fun
summer camp experience.
A Safe Place for Children: Campers are fully supervised
throughout the day. Camp leaders are trained in First Aid and CPR,
have completed a criminal record check and receive a minimum of
sixteen hours of training. Parents/guardians are required to sign
campers in and out of camp each day and provide current medical
and emergency information for their camper.
Camp Schedules: For most camps, you will be emailed a
schedule and parent information letter the Friday before the camp
begins. Schedules and the parent letter will indicate items your
camper should bring to camp each day. Please note: schedules are
subject to change.
The First Day of Camp: Please be prepared to stay a few minutes
on the first day of camp to complete sign-in, meet your camper’s
leaders and complete any outstanding paperwork.
Poor Weather: Camps run rain or shine unless you are
notified otherwise.
OnLine Registration
Epi-pens & Severe Allergies: If your child carries an Epi-pen,
an Emergency Medical Information Form must be completed before
the first day of camp. Forms are available at reception.
Please refrain from sending “products with nuts” to camp.
Extra Support Needs: Arrangements can be made through
Recreation Integration Victoria. Please call 250-477-6314 for
information.
Summer Camp Registration & Withdrawals: Please refer
to page 88 for registration and withdrawal information.
Age Requirements: • All full-day camps require campers to have
completed kindergarten before summer 2017 in order to register.
• In order to register for school-age camps or youth programs,
campers must meet the minimum age requirement by December
31, 2017. No exceptions!
• In order to register for preschool aged camps, campers must
meet the minimum age requirement by August 31, 2017.
Questions and Concerns: Please contact reception at
250-595-SWIM (7946) and a receptionist will be happy to answer
your questions or have a camp supervisor contact you.
Your feedback is important to us! Email surveys are sent out for
each week your child attends camp. Feel free to fill them out weekly
or if your time is restricted just fill out one at the end of the summer.

Learn the basics of your camera and photography. A wide variety of
techniques and skills such as: composition, lighting, aperture, shutter
speed and editing will be introduced. Different types of photography will
be taught and practiced, including nature, fashion, sport, and black and
white. Students will learn about the fundamentals of light, shadow,
exposure, and composition. By the end of camp students will go home
with their very own portfolio. On the final day of camp the students will
put on a gala from 3:30-4:30pm to display their work and creativity.
Family and friends are encouraged to attend. A basic digital camera
[Single Lens Reflex (SLR) preferred] is required for this camp.

BADMINTON CAMP
Join Mary-Jo Randall, a NCCP Level 2 coach, and her assistants to
learn basic badminton skills in unique ways. There will be time for
tactics and strategies to help step up your game! Drills, skill instruction,
and lots of variations of games are featured this week. Mary-Jo will
introduce basics to the younger group, and reinforce the basics for the
older group. This Badminton camp emphasizes the FUNdamentals of
badminton as a sport for life, with fair play for all skill levels!

NHL PRE-SEASON CO-ED KIDS CAMP
Recreation Oak Bay’s popular and well established Novice Hockey
League (NHL), is proud to present its Summer Camp. This active half
day camp for boys and girls offers 6 hours of on-ice hockey instruction.
Skill development includes: skating, stick handling, passing, shooting,
team play, and game play. Off-ice activities include fun in the Youth
Center, outdoor active and cooperative team building games. Get a
head start to the season and become familiar with the NHL’s well
established non-competitive, ‘for the fun of the game’ program.
FULL HOCKEY GEAR IS MANDATORY. Ask us about our FREE
hockey equipment lend out program available to kids signed up for

enjoy games and activities with friends in the water park, on the slip ‘n
slide, and at the beach! Have fun in the sun, swelter in the sand and
wallow in the water. Summer will be over before you know it!
WEST COAST WONDERS
Explore the wonders of the west coast right outside your back door.
Venture to the beach, enjoy mini hikes to special locations, spot wildlife
and discover all the natural wonders our beautiful city has to offer.
This week includes your favourite outdoor games, crafts and more.
Please note: this week does not offer Before or After Camp Care.
MAGIC, POTIONS & EXPLOSIONS
You will be mixing up some explosive fun this week and uncovering the
secrets of some mysterious magic tricks. From concocting Wizard’s
brew to building a model volcano, you will have a blast in this week of
magical fun!
Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen and water bottle

Playtime is an excellent childminding service
offering quality care in a safe, friendly and fun environment.
Monday-Friday • 8:45-11:15am • Ends June 23
$4.50 an hour • Pre purchase Playtime Econo tickets 10/$36.20
Look for the Y symbol next to courses that coincide with Playtime Childminding Service.
Playtime is available for children 6 months to 6 years and is limited to 8 children at one time.
Parents/ Guardians must be on the premises while their child is in childminding.
