Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe we are approaching the end of term one.
Report cards will be sent home later this month. Report cards
are a snapshot of how your child is doing at this time.
Remember that all children develop at their own pace, and
there is no race to the finish line. It is not helpful to compare
your child to others. Celebrate your child’s individual progress
and help them to build on their own strengths. We look forward
to meeting with you at parent teacher interviews. To book an
interview for your child, please go to ifcox.com and under
Quick Links you will see “book parent teacher interviews”. If
you are having any difficulties, please give the school a call
and we will help walk you through this.
We hope you will join us on November 10th for our special
Remembrance Day assembly to honour our veterans.

Emergency Preparedness
Thanks to school council for arranging a special presentation at
our tri-council meeting last month to help parents understand Hour
Zero, our emergency response program. Janine Tolhurst, our
Health and Safety Officer presented parents with the language we
will be using in emergencies, and what each means. Angela
Baron, our Communication Officer, explained how the division will
use School Messenger to notify parents. Throughout the year our
school will be practicing Evacuations and Lock Downs to ensure
everyone is very clear what to do in case of an emergency.
Usborne Literacy Fair is coming to
I.F.Cox!
Find a large display of high quality, award winning children’s books at the
school during parent-teacher interviews on November 29 and December 1
and help the school earn FREE books for the library! Orders will be taken
and the books will be delivered to the school in approximately 2 weeks, just in
time for Christmas!
The children will get to preview the books during the day and you are
welcome to browse our online catalogue to see over 2000 titles for kids from
birth to teen at:

More Important News
Talent Show
Our first school talent show for this year will be held on November
25th at 2:30pm. We began hosting Talent Shows to provide an
opportunity for children who have been working on skills to
perform in front of an audience. These may be skills they are
working on in school (choir, drama), or outside of school with a
coach or other adult (ie. dance, guitar, karate). A note will be
sent home next week with further information and for parents to
give consent for their children to perform.
FCC Drive Away Hunger
Last month our school
collected 403 kg (888 lbs.) of
food during the Farm Credit
Canada (FCC) Drive Away
Hunger Campaign. Thank you
for your generous donations.
The food bank supports many
families in our community as
well as our brown bag lunch
program.
Inclement Weather and School Closure
In the event of severe weather in the morning, the principals from
all Redcliff Schools communicate early to decide if a school
closure is required. Our policy states the following reasons for
closure:



Temperature, including wind chill, at –40C or colder at 6:00
a.m.
Severely reduced visibility (.2 km or less)
A combination of weather and/or road conditions that make
bus operation unsafe
If the decision is made to close the schools, it will be made prior to
6:30a.m. A message will be sent out to all staff, parents and bus
drivers using School Messenger (phone, text, email)alerting them of
the closure. As well, the website will be updated and the media
will be advised.
School FSLW
If you are in need of any family
supports, please feel free to
contact our FSLW worker,
Janay Gregory at 403 548-1257
Bus Drivers are able to make the decision as to whether or not it is
safe for them to operate their busses. Conditions may exist where
the school remains open but some drivers determine it is unsafe to
drive in the conditions of their route. In this case, parents will be
notified by the same means as a school closure above.
It is always the parents’ decision to determine if it is safe for their
child to attend school. Even though the school is open, or a bus is
running, a parent may decide to keep their child home if they
deem it is unsafe.
Although we rarely close the school, it is important to know the
protocols in the event this is necessary. If you have any questions
about our processes, please feel free to contact the school.
