These great call rates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – there are no off-peak times to worry about. Most service providers that advertise attractive call rates also have a big connection fee at the start of a call. Because most mobile and STD calls are usually short, this makes a huge difference to the amount that gets charged to your phone bill. For example a 55 second call to a mobile phone with a traditional service provider may cost as much as 67 cents (37 cent connection fee plus 30 cents per minute block or part thereof) – the same call with MyNetFone would cost 15 cents on the PowerSaver service (no connection fee, only 20 cents per minute block or part thereof). That is an immediate 77% saving on some mobile calls. www.mynetfone.com.au Your Broadband VoIP Phone Service How To Get Started Quickly To get started with the MyNetFone service you need two things: 1. An existing broadband Internet connection – from any reputable ISP in Australia. We recommend a minimum of a 64kbit/sec upstream and 128kbit/sec downstream or higher. Higher speeds will improve the voice quality. When using the minimum recommended speed, you may suffer voice quality “break-up” if using the Internet in the background. At times like these it’s best to stop applications which may be running in the background, or increase the speed of your service with your ISP. We also recommend a minimum of a 100 Megabyte plan. VoIP usage does go towards your ISP’s download quota. In general 20 minutes of talk time will use about 1 Megabyte of quota. Note that if you are with an ISP that counts both download and upload, then 10 minutes of talk time will use about 1 Megabyte of quota. A 100 Megabyte plan will usually give you about 2000 minutes of talk time per month if used exclusively for VoIP. Most households use only about 1000 minutes of talk time per month. 2. A VoIP device such as the MyNetFone soft phone on your computer or an Analogue Telephone Adaptor (ATA). This is the device that converts your phone call into Internet voice. You can purchase your device from MyNetFone on the web site, or ask your local computer store. There are several types of adaptors available on the market. Make sure you purchase one with a MyNetFone logo on the box. This means the adaptor is pre-configured and ready to work with the MyNetFone services – anywhere in the world. Things You Need To Know About VoIP The following are very important things that every consumer needs to know about VoIP. • Emergency Calls – With VoIP, calls to emergency services such as 000 may not work at all times – like when the power is out or the Internet is down. Also emergency service operators will not be able to tell your location so you will need to inform them. MyNetFone do not recommend using VoIP as your only telephone service at home. We recommend that you keep another form of telephone – mobile or land line available for emergencies. No VoIP service provider can provide faultless emergency call services due to the nature of the Internet. • Voice Quality – Whilst the MyNetFone network normally provides excellent voice quality – as good as or better than a traditional service – this quality is subject to the performance of your Internet connection, and as such, cannot be guaranteed at all times. Choosing The Right Adaptor For You There are essentially four types of adaptors to choose from for the home consumer. The choice will depend on the budget and the intended method of use. Detailed instructions are provided with each unit at the time of purchase. Visit http://www.mynetfone.com.au/devices/ for more details. 1.
