The President Rosen Plevneliev, the Rector of UNWE Prof. Statty Stattev and the Minister of
Defence Anyu Angelov opened an International Conference on Intelligent Defence. It was
organized by the Department of National and Regional Security in a partnership with the
Ministry of Defence, the Association George Marshal, Bulgarian Academy of Science and the
Institute for Metal Science Acad. Angel Balevsky. One of the objectives of the Forum – a wide public debate in collaboration with NATO and EU
has been already achieved. There are over 110 participants from Bulgaria and abroad,
official persons, representatives of the science, non-governmental sector, students and
journalists, pointed out Dr. Svetoslav Spasov, Lecturer at the UNWE and Adviser of the
Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. The Rector of UNWE expressed his gratitude to the President Plevneliev for he accepted so
convincingly and fearlessly the invitation to be a patron of the Conference and outlined the
importance of the intelligent defence. I`m sure the discussions on these hot issues initiated
by our academic representatives and colleagues from the practice will have an exclusive
importance for our future decisions and activities related to the security not only in our region
but all over the world. This Forum is an eloquent example for the relation of science with
practice. Life has proven that the voice of science must be heard clearly and distinctively and
the politicians and statesmen must listen to this voice, emphasized Prof. Stattev. During The Forum (from the left to the

Stattev during a natural conversation Prof.Statty Stattev, Dr. Svetoslav Spasov. The Rector announced that there is an idea to be formed at the UNWE a Multinational Center
to work on the issues of intelligent defence, to elaborate theoretical conceptions, to generate
ideas. According to the President it will be wonderful to be formed such Center of NATO at
the university because it will help Bulgaria to be positioned as one of the countries with the
highest technologies.
At the International Conference attended also Andrey Kovatchev, Deputy Chairman of the
Committee on Foreign Affairs to the European Parliament and Dr. Holger Bahle from the

security and defence. Some actual questions discussed at this Forum will be central issues
also at the Alliance meeting at high level in May in Chicago.
