METEOROLOGICAL YEARBOOK OF SLOVENIA
Each year, we issue a Meteorological Yearbook of Slovenia for the past year. It is divided into two parts; in the first, climatic characteristics and meteorological data are processed, and in the
second, vegetation characteristics and agrometeorological data for the year in question.
In the agrometeorological part of the Meteorological Yearbook are published:
! Characteristics of vegetation periods
! dates of temperature thresholds, length of vegetation period and frost
0
0
! monthly and annual amounts of active air temperature above the thresholds of 0 C, 5 C,
0
10 C
0
! monthly and annual amounts of effective air temperature above the thresholds of 5 C and
0
10 C
! characteristic agrometeorological dates
! monthy amounts of potential evapotranspiration from March to October according to
corrected Penman's equation (mm)
! phenological observations (dates)
! average daytime temperature of the ground at a depth of 5 cm, at nine stations
! monthly ground temperatures at various depths
In the meteorological part are shown:
! the network of meteorological stations in the year
! climatic characteristics of the year
! exceptional weather events in the year
! daily values of meteorological variables measured at 10
main meteorological stations
! monthly and annual values of meteorological variables
! monthly and annual levels of precipitation
! statistics of rainy days and levels of snow cover
! monthly amounts of duration of solar radiation
! daily and monthly amounts of global solar radiation
! Air temperature at a height of 5 cm above the ground
CLIMATOGRAPH OF SLOVENIA
We systematically process all measured and observed meteorological variables recorded at meteorological stations throughout Slovenia. They are published in the publication Klimatografija
Slovenije (Climatograph of Slovenia) in volumes in which are collected monthly data on individual meteorological variables from meteorological stations where measuring has taken place in
the period from 1961 to 1990, thus in the last reference climatological period. In individual volumes are described the processed variables, a selection of meteorological stations, spatial and
time analysis of the variable in Slovenia, and a map of Slovenia is shown with average values of variables and monthly and annual values of variables in tables.
To date, five volumes have been published:
precipitation
duration of solar radiation
Precipitation is the basic climatic factor
that affects all spheres of human
activity. Precipitation most strongly
affects water supply, but is also
important for obtaining electrical
energy, in agriculture, tourism,
transport and other spheres. The great
climatic variety of Slovenia greatly
affects the spatial and temporal
distribution.
One of the meteorological variables measured at ARSO is the
duration of solar radiation. The amount of sunshine has a large
temporal and spatial variability. The sunniest month is July, the
sunniest area is Primorska, followed by Prekmurje. The duration of
solar radiation is currently measured at 23 heliographic stations in
Slovenia.
The spatial distribution of precipitation
for Slovenia for the period 1961-1990
duration of snow cover
The spatial distribution of average annual
temperature for the period 1961-1990
The duration of snow cover depends on various factors of relief:
altitude, form, type of relief and orientation of the terrain. It shows
great temporal and spatial viability. The extremes of duration of snow
cover and the phenomenon of snowing are of interest. Observing
snow conditions includes daily measurements of the depth of snow
cover, the depth of newly fallen snow, determining the maximum
depth of snow cover, measuring the density of the snow and
observing the snow cover. We have partially presented the snow
conditions in Slovenia with the duration of snow cover.
air temperature, together with
precipitation is one of the most
important meteorological variables that
define the climate of an area. The air
temperature in Slovenia has a
characteristic daily and annual
variation. The highest daily
temperature value is reached in the
early afternoon, and the lowest just
before dawn. The hottest month of the
year is usually July, and the lowest
temperature is usually recorded in
January.

Average daily duration of solar radiation
degree days and duration of the heating season
For 108 places the degree days are calculated and the duration of the
heating season. The map of degree days (temperature shortage) which
shows the spatial distribution of degree days is an assessment for the
division of the use of energy for heating.
