EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
& BOARD CHAIR
Over the past year, The Children’s Center once again
witnessed an increasing demand for children’s mental health
services. Children experiencing trauma continued to seek
our evidence-based care, and our clinical team was there for
them. Children being expelled from preschools and daycares
desperately needed our Therapeutic Preschool Program, and
our preschool specialists wiped away their tears and gave
them the skills to be successful in a regular preschool or
daycare. Parents needing help to better understand their
children diagnosed with autism found great comfort in our
unique PLAY2Learn and social skills groups.
But we didn’t stop there! Our Early Childhood Consultation
and Training Program expanded to provide even greater
support to the early childhood education community in our
area in order to offer critically needed training for those who
deliver services to young children in our community. Our
administrative team continued to provide clinical training to
therapists throughout the state of Utah in order to ensure
that very young children can receive treatment from qualified
mental health therapists in their own communities.
In order to support all of this tremendous work,
our Development Team, along with the Board, raised
unprecedented dollars to guarantee that every family seeking
our services could do so regardless of their ability to pay. That
goal remains a cornerstone of all that we do at The Children’s
Center.
Our bus drivers fought traffic, bad weather, and managed
rambunctious children on their buses to ensure that they all
arrived safely every single day.
Our office support staff made certain that the
appointments and hundreds of calls each day ran smoothly.
And our business office, with a very small team, managed to
track our finances and grants with precision. Our Volunteer
Coordinator made certain that our preschool groups had the
support needed while simultaneously juggling community
projects that enhance our ability to provide care. And our
beloved maintenance staff of one braved cold dark nights in
the middle of winter to guarantee heat in the morning when
the children and staff arrived.
All in all, it is truly amazing when we think about
everything a team of less than 100 employees accomplished
this year. We are also greatly proud of the oversight provided
from the Board of Trustees. They too work diligently to make
sure that we have the ability to provide expert care to the
children in our community. From our three fundraising events,
to managing the Center’s financial needs, the Board’s work
makes a critical difference. And this past year, they have all
undertaken additional committee work to see that we have
the vital resources needed to continue to serve the growing
needs of our community in the years to come.
For every family that enters our doors, a committed,
passionate staff along with an amazing group of volunteers
stands behind them to offer a happier, more successful life
for their child. We are profoundly grateful that we reside in
a community of supporters like you who share our mission
and our commitment to young children and, through your
generosity, make it possible to continue our work each year.

EXTENDING OUR
REACH
Over our 54 year history, The Children’s Center has formed strong partnerships throughout Salt Lake City and the entire
state with like-minded nonprofits to exchange knowledge, capitalize on each organization’s particular skill set and to extend
our reach. Due to a strong partnership with the YWCA, we are able to run The Strengthening Family Coping Resources program
(SFCR), a skill-building intervention group. This program is designed for families living in crisis settings with the goal of reducing trauma-related symptoms and
increasing coping resources in children. It also works with adult caregivers to prevent a relapse into an unsafe living
environment. Families come together to learn new ways of coping with stress and to heal from distressing events that have
taken place in their lives. Our families have dinner together, practice sharing stories, and develop skills that make daily living
easier and filled with more joy than sadness. This 10 week program leaves a lasting impression on the families involved.

The Early Childhood Consultation and Training Program at The Children’s Center provides onsite guidance for teachers
and caregivers in Salt Lake County and surrounding areas. This incredible resource helps support early childhood educators,
ensuring a more robust early childhood system and a better start for many children in our community.
Early Childhood Education can be a challenging field, and it can be helpful to have a fresh perspective when dealing with
behavioral challenges in the classroom. When an early educator reaches out to The Children’s Center, our skilled staff will join
these partners onsite to observe the classroom, offering expert and objective opinions on complex situations.
The Early Childhood Consultation and Training Program is just one of the ways that The Children’s Center provides support
and care for our community’s most vulnerable children.
