Save Energy Every Day With Projectors, Speakers, Computers

Save Energy Every Day With Projectors,
Speakers, Computers & SMARTboards!
Did you know that our average technology system uses about 175 watts of electricity when it’s all on? If your projector
and sound system are on for 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, this costs the district around $3.50 per month.
Doesn’t seem like much? Let’s do the math to see how fast things can add up:
1 projector/speakers/computer/SMARTboard per classroom x 50 rooms per building (average) = 50 technology systems
50 systems x 4 buildings (elementary, high school, middle school, community ed) = 200 systems
200 systems x $3.50 each = $700 per month
But there is MORE…
Even when shut down, PROJECTORS and SOUND SYSTEMS use between 5-10 watts of standby power (aka Vampire Energy
or Plug Load). That means we need to add:
.25₵ - .50₵ per system x 200 systems = $50 - $100 per month
Now, that is assuming that everyone is turning their computer, projector, sound system and SMARTBoard off properly,
every day. What if we forget?
If half of our systems are shutdown improperly, or not at all, and left on during nights, weekends and long breaks we must
add:
$9.25 per system x 100 systems = $925 per month!!!
YIKES! This means that our combined technology systems have the potential to cost Delano
$1700 per month!
Oh, and did I mention that the bulbs cost between $200 - $300 a piece? The longer that they are left on, the
faster they burn out, and the more they are costing us
What can you do to help? REMEMBER:
•
Shut down your projector, sound system and computer properly, EVERY DAY
•
Shut down your projector and sound system anytime it’s not in use – lunch, prep, in between classes
•
Unplug your projector and sound system if it is safe and easy to do so – if not daily, try to unplug during
weekends and long breaks. This is the only way to cut energy use to zero
Thanks for all you do to save energy for Delano Schools!
