What would you like to tell S4C about the idea of a Welsh language channel for
children and young people?

I think it is a good idea because it will help young children with their language and everybody will like the
programme.
Very good idea. The restricted current choice means that children watch English language Satellite television
rather than the Welsh programmes. More choice through a Welsh language children’s channel would help this.

If you make a programme all Welsh speakers will enjoy Welsh language programmes. What would be good is a
programme that helps people with their Welsh and it would be good to have films for young children and older
children. It would be good if you had a soap opera. I don’t like little children’s cartoons because they are boring
and there is not enough for children aged 10-15. I don’t like the films because they are not good and it would be
good to have drama films. And I would be happy if you showed things like choirs and singing. And you could have
home work programmes to help with my home work.
At the moment I do not watch S4C programmes because programmes on Sky+ and BBC and ITV appeal more to
me than S4C programmes.
I would like Welsh language programmes for me all day. I like Triongl, Holi Hanna, Ribidires,Tair Slic, Retro,
Stwffio, Waaaa and other programmes. On CBBC I like Tracey Beaker.
I think this is a good idea, and there will be programmes for different age groups.
I think it will be good because people of all ages can watch television and good programmes in the Welsh
language.
I would like you to make more agricultural programmes because I live on a farm and like to go out to help my
father on the farm.

If they are for older children aged 10-16, there should be no cartoons in my opinion, but more sophisticated
things.
Motorbike racing. More Welsh pop. Nature programmes for children. People cooking. Comedy programmes.
More boxing. More wrestling. People singing. People singing comedy songs.
I would like you to give us a choice of what is available and then ask us which is best and ask our opinion.
Having new programmes is a good idea. There are many interesting programmes on S4C. But what I would like to
see are programmes on Fashion and programmes that deal with young people’s problems e.g. Homework, boys
etc. Many people also like drama. You could also make a programme that helps children to improve their Welsh.
Many children are lazy with their Welsh, so a programme like that would be a good idea. Programmes on how to
improve things and things like Running, Throwing, jumping and also school work! Young people would like to see
more cartoons on S4C. I would like you to take this into consideration.
It will be good to make more programmes for little children 0-5 to help them start to learn Welsh.
I think for the young children things like ‘Tweenies, Big cook little cook'. For children 5-10 things like you see on
'tiny pop' are good for this age like 'Littlest pet shop, Sonic underground' etc. For ages 10-16 it would be good to
have Pam fi Duw? and Tocyn diwrnod. My favourite programmes are 'That’s so raven, Suit life of Zack and Cody,
Hanna Montana, Lizzy m' etc (Disney channel). I want to see a programme to teach young children to improve
their Welsh. A programme on how to look 'gorgeous'. I would like new drama for children aged 10-16 featuring
school life and the problems that can come up. Also an adventure programme with fun and wet tasks. A
programme about girls and fashion and friends. I enjoy watching S4C. It is good.

I think that it’s a very good idea because at the moment S4C programmes after school are very different, some are
programmes for children and some are for older children.
I like it all because there aren’t many Welsh children’s programmes at present and this will give them a chance to
have some fun too.
I think that this is a very good idea to have more Welsh language programmes, especially for growing children
because in this way they are growing through the medium of Welsh and they are learning.
We would like you to put more films on for young children and older children after school and also at weekends.
Series like The Simpsons and Doctor Who in Welsh.
S4C would be better if you put on The Simpsons, South Park etc. And in the evenings put on things like CSI, more
gory things at night.
It will be good for children of all ages. It will have to be interesting.
There will be more choice on television for children who are at home ill all day.
It would be good to call it Welsh for children and it would be good if The Simpsons was in Welsh and more HIP
NEU SGIP! More quizzes. A cookery programme where adults cook things that look nice but some have horrible
things inside and some have nice things inside. And you guess which one is nice and you have to eat it to find out
if you are right.
I think it is a good idea and you should carry on with the process of making a Welsh language channel, but you
should make a S4C for children, S4C for babies and S4C for adults. I would like to see Spongebobsqurepants, Firly
odd parents, Hannah Montana made in a Welsh and also The Simpsons.
Educational programmes or dramas that could help young people improve their Welsh. Sports programmes with
Welsh language commentary are good.
Put something like "Whizz Whizz Bang Bang" or "50/50" and better games from the BBC and “Brainiac" from Sky
One.
I think this is an excellent idea. This is a good opportunity for British/ English people to start to understand
Welsh better
I want more interesting/ better programmes e.g. 'Friends' as I don’t like some of the programmes on S4C. I hope
you will improve it.
I think it is a good idea to have a new Welsh language channel because many people learn Welsh by watching
Welsh language TV programmes. I also watch a lot of English language programmes but will watch more Welsh
now.
I think older things and more amusing things should be available to me e.g. "Friends" which is on T4, "Hollyoaks"
and similar programmes. Unfortunately I don’t watch S4C because I don’t think that the things available are
suitable for my age. Good luck in trying to change the programme!
It would be a good idea to have programmes like The Simpsons and nature programmes in Welsh. And quizzes for
children like Junior Mastermind. Also it would be good to have programmes that challenge children like
Camperfan. It would be good to have programmes like Doctor Who and Bugsy Milone.
I would very much enjoy watching something like Welsh football, or if someone came to watch us playing sports
and then show us in television. That will make us stronger as a country. We must start showing more Welsh
language channels. It would be an idea to do it like Sky but in Welsh. It would be nice to hear somebody saying
“Let’s go watch sport on the Welsh channel”. Adventure programmes, sport, film, children’s channel, channel or
adults, nature, news.
If you do something like this, then the English and other countries won’t feel superior, because we would have a
channel like them. I strongly believe that we need a programme where people help children to improve their
Welshness. E.g. Brainiac in Welsh. We need talented people from Wales to make films for our future…I would like
to get a part in one of these films and perform in Welsh.
We have to stop people from coming to Wales to perform in other languages because, to be honest, you never see
people from Wales performing in other countries. So we have to start making our own programmes. Let’s make
the decision. From what I know, we have to start making Welsh programmes. Superted was in Welsh first and
foreign countries stole our ideas.
An excellent idea to promote the Welsh language and will also give us something to do.
I would like to have another channel where you can watch programmes in Welsh and enjoy yourself. In my
opinion they should have a digibox or sky but in Welsh only. Digibox made the right decision to sell the box for a
reasonable price. We have to have more Welsh programmes to improve our Welsh. We also need to show our
talents as a country. And people should come to our school and let us be on TV. I would like it if I could go to
school and discs last night’s excellent Welsh language television programme with my friends.
I would like to see programmes in Welsh for all ages including Hip Neu Sgip, Stwffio, Capafan, Retro and more
Planed Plant programmes.
I would like to see Welsh language TV programmes for children of all ages, and I would like to see more of hip neu
sgip. I would like to see programmes that challenge children to do different things like Camperfan. I would also
like to see a programme like "Best of friends" in Welsh.
I think the new Welsh language channel is a good idea for children so they can watch more Welsh programmes. It

I don’t think it is a good idea because there are many very good channels in English. But it is a good idea too
because it will encourage more people to speak.
Will there be more of the series ‘Stamina‘?
I think a channel for children is good because it will improve the language of young children and young people.
I think it is an excellent idea but I think you should have a channel specifically for teenagers too. If the channel
goes ahead, you should broadcast far fewer children’s programmes on S4C Digital.

I think it is a nice idea to have a Welsh programme but one thing I would suggest is that you have a specific
programme for children as the BBC do with CBBC for older children and Cbeebies for year 2 and younger.
I think a Welsh channel is needed to improve the young people’s Welsh. But I don’t think young people know
where to find S4C. I think you should advertise the channel on English language channels in a “cool” way so that
young people like the idea and turn to the channel!!!
I would like to see programmes like 'Pam fi Duw?' for the older children (10-16) and something very imaginative
like ‘Toddworld’ for the younger children (0-5). For the 5-10 year olds something like original cartoons like
'Scooby-doo' or Rala Rwdins would be very good. It would be nice to see nature programmes now and again. And
in the night, you could have Welsh language pop or show Welsh songs. But without subtitles in English because it
is a nuisance trying to watch a programme with this kind of writing on the screen. Also different kinds of
competitions would be good. I would like to see a Welsh language version of ‘Tiswas’ again.!!!!!
I would like to have more choice of films and series. Like Doctor Who, Simpsons, Star Wars and Futureramer.
I would love to watch Welsh language channels. I enjoyed Tylwyth Teg Od in Welsh. I would like to raise another
point. In the set top boxes there are languages other than Welsh. If they translated the language this would
increase the confidence of people to watch and improve their language. But I have to say I enjoy SGORIO. It
entertains me and others I am sure. As a country we need to increase our strength in the language. They could
make programmes about athletics e.g. how to jump far, run faster, throw further etc.
I think that creating a specific place would give better provision for children and young people. However I think
that some programmes on S4C are “boring”. Young people today want to see more programmes about them and
their concerns or problems. Creating a Welsh language Big Brother would increase the viewing figures. This has
been a great success for Channel4 and it may be time to learn from that success??
I believe more programmes for the 14+ are needed. Very infrequently do I see anything of interest because
everything is too young for me. Programmes like ‘Planet Earth’ which is on the BBC would be a good idea too. But

Very good. It is a very appealing idea and I would enjoy seeing the Welsh language used more on TV. Currently,
most programmes do not appeal to me but the idea of new programmes for my age would be very good and the
language will be spoken more
S4C should carry out research in different sorts of young people’s attractions and more contemporary young
people’s channels.
Thank you very much for S4C. There are many people who cannot speak Welsh and this gives them an
opportunity to watch things in Welsh. Many of my friends ask whyS4C is the only Welsh language channel. All
programmes should be in Welsh. I would like to have Smangbob in Welsh. It would be excellent if you could. And
if you can I would like programmes from the kids channel in Welsh, such as Mr bean, Ferry od perants, Zoey 101,
Raevan, Zack and Cody and many more. If you watch those channels you can see a lot more programmes.
There aren’t enough programmes for 10-16 year olds. Only cartoons are available and they don’t appeal to me.
I want to say that I enjoy watching TV and more programmes for 10 to 16s should be shown like "Family Guy",
"Simpsons". There are many different languages in the set top box , but no Welsh. Why is that?
I enjoyed watching Ding dong in year two and enjoy films. More Welsh language films should be made.

I agree with you!! It is important to have Welsh programmes to give those who can’t speak Welsh a chance to see
programmes in Welsh!! For small children I would like to see things like Sali mali, Thomas y tanc engine but in
Welsh!! People over 8 will watch anything if it is in Welsh!! They would like to watch programmes about girls and
programmes about boys and programmes about little children under 8!! You won’t show the programmes more
than once or twice per week will you?? In my opinion it is a wonderful idea because everybody who can speak
Welsh will enjoy the Welsh programmes!! I would enjoy programmes about girls and their fashion problems!! The
boys will enjoy things like football and sport and maybe girls will watch the sports programmes too!! I would like
to see more programmes on TV and the families of young children will also be happy if they are trying to learn
Welsh or if it provides the children with fun. There is no point speaking Welsh if you don’t watch programmes in
Welsh!! There are thousand in Wales who can speak Welsh and many more who want to watch Welsh language
programmes!!
I think it is a good idea because if children watch before and after school it will help with the Welsh language at
home and in school. Also if they have brothers and sisters they will be able to speak in Welsh with them.

like numbers and greetings. Programmes on every day would be good for people around my age, around 11-17
I think S4C should have more sports programmes for the over 10s. More comedy is a must too. This must be

I believe this is a good idea and more children may watch more programmes in Welsh on H.M.S days and when
we are off sick. Maybe more children will speak better Welsh and speak it more often in school.
I think this is an excellent idea. There is only one Welsh language channel on TV at the moment and that is not
enough. I would like to see more drama about young people. The best one I have seen was PAM FI DUW!, and I
would like to see this on TV again. I am also very keen on riding ponies so would like to see programmes about
horses. I don’t think that girls of my age like dramas such as ’ Rough Diamond ' which used to be on BBC.
I think it is an excellent idea to have a programme for children/ young people. More than anything I would like to
see channels like "Sky sports", but in Welsh. They could show things like the Welsh premier league and the Welsh
Rugby Cup. Also a music channel like “MTV", in Welsh, with bands like Iglw and Anweledig.

I think it would be good to have programmes like "Hannah Montana" and "The suite life of Zac and Cody" (from
Disney channel) in Welsh for young people between 8-16 years old, and things like "Balamory" (from CBBC) for
the younger children. Also, many people like “the Simpsons" so it would be good to have that on the new channel.

I like to see programmes that have a lot of drama in them. I would like to see more girls’ programmes featuring
girls shopping, fashion and relationship issues. I would also like to see more programmes dealing with girls’
problems, problems with home work and school and also boys! I would say these programmes for girls would be
appropriate for any age, apart from 0-5. I think it would be a good idea to have programmes for people who are
trying to learn Welsh! Programmes that offer advice on how to improve things like jumping, cookery, running,

I think you should make programmes like “Hannah Montana" and "Cory in the house" (from the Disney channel).
I saw one of the dramas on your channel and watched it every week. It was a while ago so I can’t remember the
name. Maybe programmes like "Fifi and the flowertots" and "Lazy town" for people aged 0-5. My other idea is to
make programmes for boys like football and best friends programmes for girls. I do think it is a good idea but it
depends on the programmes that are on!

A drama about everyday problems would be good for people aged 10-16, and also a programme that helps people
with spelling. There should be a programme where you can write in and have people come to visit you and you
show them around your town, and then you can visit theirs. Not have everybody from big places like Cardiff, but
also quite small places like Cwmbrân.
Spongebob-squarepants, super 14 rugby and Drake and Josh. I would like to see them in Welsh and things like
that. And films in the evenings and at the weekend.
Stop adapting English programmes into Welsh. They lose all appeal. Please come up with new programmes.

Spiderman, Tair Slic, Pobol y Cwm, Rownd a Rownd, Noson Lawen, Ofn. The new programmes I would like to see
are things like Doctor Who, Basil Brush and the English ones I mentioned earlier.
Good idea but more original Welsh language entertainment programmes are needed, not translations from
English.
Basically a good idea but consideration must be given to the sorts of programmes that will need to be broadcast
for the wide range of ages outlined. Older children like things like soaps. Programmes with that ‘something extra’
will be needed, compared to other Welsh language programmes.
Good idea! Also try to get lots of comedy.
Quite a good idea but the programmes have to be funny with no cheesy or childish jokes if they are to appeal to
children of our age and things like Brainiac' on 'Sky One.'

programmes in Welsh at the moment.
The Simpsons and Art attack and Star wars 3 and Horrid Henry and Sponge bob and Doctor Who in Welsh
I would like to see something like Tracy Beaker. Because Tracy Beaker is something that everybody can watch and
would be easy to do in Welsh. Many people will watch something like Tracy Beaker. Maybe you could do
something like this: A girl has a new mum and dad and dreams about her real mother. She goes through problems
like wanting to meet her mother and know where she is. A lot of people watch Tracy Beaker in English but there
are many people who speak Welsh only so the more Welsh language programmes there are the more people can
watch what they like.
In my opinion S4C should make ‘reality’ programmes for children aged 10-16, like ‘Big Brother’. Also S4C should
have more programmes that are about children e.g. 'My super sweet sixteen' (MTV). 'Extreme Makeover' (Living)
(for children’s bedrooms). Then, more children will watch the channel but at the moment there are too many
programmes for young children. Programmes like 'Dennis a dannedd' are for little children. If there were more
programmes like the ones I mentioned earlier I would watch the channel more.
In my opinion S4C should make more programmes like “My Super Sweet 16" which is on MTV. If there are
programmes like this on the channel I would watch it more often. Also, in my opinion, you should show more
reality shows like “Extreme Makeover" because these are the sorts of programmes I would watch..!
In my opinion the idea of a Welsh language channel for children and young people would help attempts to speak
more of the language and understand more Welsh.
In my opinion it is a good idea because I don’t watch many programmes in Welsh and it would be nice to see more
of a variety of programmes in Welsh for our age, and then I would possibly watch it more often.
In my opinion it is an excellent idea. It is a very good idea because if people can’t speak Welsh it will teach them. I

In my opinion, more programmes for young children are needed. I would like to see more dramas for boys e.g.
boys from the same school who also go to the same rugby club. I think there should be a music channel playing
Welsh music for young and older children. I would also like to see programmes teaching children how to play
instruments e.g. the harp.
The programmes I would like to see are The Simpsons, Family guy and sports like football and rugby and
programmes to help you with home work and cooking.
It is not a good idea to have more programmes for 0-5 year olds because there is already enough choice for them
and it will make them watch more TV.
I don’t like Welsh language programmes much
I don’t like S4C because the programmes are too early in the morning but I don’t mind anyway because I don’t
watch them. I prefer to see good things on the TV like….anything apart from S4C.
I don’t think it is a good idea to have another channel for children and young people because it will make them
watch more TV and there is plenty of choice already.
There should be more cool and fun programmes on S4C after school

You should show more sport, rugby, surfing and the Tour de France. Your children’s programmes are "out of
date". You should change them. S4C would be much better without North Walians. “Big Brother” would be good.

You should ask children and young people to help you come up with ideas for programmes. Not just for one
programme, but for all of them. And have different people every time.
I would like to have a channel for young people because you only have programmes for old people and young

I would like to have something exciting. It is a good idea that everyone can watch their own programmes to avoid

See more things like football and rugby and sport and faster things. I would like to see films like James Bond in
Welsh and soap operas about young people and school life.
Making Welsh language versions of all English programmes. For example: Spongebob. Wwe. Cartoons. Waterloo.

Make sure that all the programmes are funny and have plenty of variety of things! Also if you have competitions
make sure that it is free for children to phone in! For small children, use simple language in the programmes!

I would like to have a new channel on S4C because I would watch it and at the moment there isn’t much for
children and young people on Welsh.
Good programmes, keeping up, it’s very good!! It would be better if you went to every primary and secondary
school and organise fun competitions with lots of mess!!! The Welsh language is a good thing because if someone
is mean to you, you can say things in Welsh to them and they won’t understand. And we have to throw everybody
who doesn’t speak Welsh out of the country, apart from family! Create a website so that old and young people can
learn Welsh.!!!!! And also create some sort of Big Brother for children and adults.
I agree with what you are trying to do - good luck to you. Unfortunately I am not very keen on the programmes on
S4C but if you change the programmes to suit my age maybe you can change my way of thinking and I will start
enjoying S4C!! Also you should change the programmes to be more like Super Sweet 16 , Big Brother, Hollyoaks

I think it is a great idea to have awash channel for us. I want to start watching more Welsh language programmes
because at the moment I only watch Stamina sometimes.

I would like to have more cartoons like Spongebob, Fairy odd parents, Doctor Who and The Simpsons. You have
to put on Welsh language films. I don’t want quizzes. And you should make I’m a celebrity get me out of here in
Welsh with people from Wales.
I would like to see “The Simpsons” in Welsh. I also want "Mutant X" and "Malcolm in the middle" in Welsh. I
loved Spiderman in Welsh. I would like to see shows about young people aged 12-19. Also a programme about
Welsh people boxing would be good and could be called "Plant sy'n bocsio" (Children who box).
I would like to have English cartoons in Welsh. For example Batman but I like Spiderman in Welsh now. I would
also like some programmes to teach people Welsh because not many people can speak the language

8-13 year olds will watch that. It would be nice to see a drama like Grange Hill featuring school life and shown
every day on S4C. A lot of people 10-16 would like a music channel with all the latest songs on it. I would also like
to see a programme where girls and boys compete against each other in physical tasks to win a prize. The score of
every programme would be taken into account to find the overall winner.
I would like to have Sponge bob square pants in Welsh and also a number of other programmes like: Faily odd
parents, the story of Tracey Beaker, Drake and Josh. I would like to see them in Welsh. Also what about a school
programme like Grange Hill. I don’t like things like quizzes. They are very boring. I don’t watch S4Cat the minute
because I don’t like the programmes, but if it had programmes like that I would watch it and more people would
too.
I would like to see things like ‘‘Simpsons’’ and ''Doctor Who’’ in Welsh and things that challenge children of all
ages. It would be good to see nature programmes and cartoons in Welsh and quizzes like ‘‘junior master mind''. I
think that things like that are good. And more hip neu scip and retro and programmes about football. I would also
like ‘‘best of ffrriendz'' in Welsh and programmes that make children cook things. That would be funny.
I would like to see many more channels on S4C like ‘Tracy Beaker' in Welsh. It would be nice to see programmes
from South Wales and about children in our school. You should have a programme like Bandit but shown in the
afternoon or early evening. A music channels is another idea. It would also be nice to see a programme that helps
children with their home work. A programme about a girl whose parents are embarrassing and her sister mean to
her. Programme about girls who are best friends and discuss things that all girls do e.g. boys, shopping, dancing
etc. It would be nice t have a programme showing you how to get a boyfriend.
I would like to see the sorts of programmes shown on “sky one" and "bravo" in the Welsh language. And the
World’s Strongest Man in Welsh. I loved Sam Tan when I was small. And a new programme about health and
how to do things like singing in the shower. And it would be good if S4C showed programmes " jetix".

I would like to see more dramas for children in the evenings because there aren’t enough of them in Welsh. I
strongly believe that you should broadcast more mature things in the evenings such as drama serials like
‘Eastenders’ to get children to watch the channel. Children over 10 do not like programmes like Sam-Tan. By the
time they reach 10 children watch dramas full of scandal and violence. I would like to see more programmes like
Stwffio and maybe animal shows. You could translate Big Brother into Welsh. For young children, you could fill
the channel with music programmes and arts and crafts competitions with a message like ‘KEEPCHILDREN
BUSY!’ I would like to see ’PAM FI DUW?’ on TV once again. As I chatted with my friends I found that they too
would like to see this programme again. There are over 500,000 Welsh speakers throughout Wales and there
aren’t enough channels for this number of people in Wales.
I would like to see the programme "Takeshi's castle" in the evening for all the family. It is funny and can entertain
us. Also it would be good to see a programme that would help you as a person, how to improve fitness and eat and
live healthily.
I do not like your program S4C because it is a load of unhealthy things on it like Superted and Dennis the
menace!!
Less talking and more fun things and more prizes and things that appeal to children of our age
Many more cartoons/ films are needed after school and then comedies for older children like me. After that you
could have programmes for people aged 10-16. More sport, for example, and things like Animal planet but in
Welsh. In the evenings, you need things for mothers and fathers and older people. There are many quizzes in
television, we need fewer quizzes. If you can, something like Disney in Welsh would be really good and I would
watch that. There are lots of things like rugby already on the TV.
You need to show films after school for young children who go to bed early. You should show soaps for older
people and people around 16 years. Children 5-10 need films. People should vote in the programmes for small
children and older children. I don’t like quizzes. I would like programmes for young people and films in the
evenings.
Having a Welsh language channel for children is a good idea, because there aren’t many Welsh programmes on
TV, and maybe it would encourage people to speak Welsh. I would like to watch Welsh language TV that is less
childish.
It’s quite a good idea but I won’t watch it every time I watch the TV

It is very good to make an S4C channel for children and young people
This is an excellent idea. I can’t wait to have a separate channel for us children.
Many children of our age are very keen on comedy! So it would be good if you could have comedy on the channel!
Please! Also we need to be able to understand what people are saying. When I read books written by people from
North Wales there are many words that I do not understand, so I can’t follow what’s going on! Many programmes
hold competitions, so that would be an idea for the channel too!

There are very good programmes on S4C now, but they are not shown at time that suit me. A channel just for

Speaking Welsh on a Welsh channel is important because it gives you another language at home. Also many
people who go to Welsh schools speak English at home, so it will remind them of the language at home.
The Welsh language is good because it would keep the language alive and it would be good if you had Shrek ,Tom
& Jerry, Star wars. But I don’t like watching QUIZZES. The programme Batman is very good in Welsh

The channel is very good. Here are examples of programmes I watched when I was young e.g. Bob yr adeiladwr
and Teletubbies and Rala Rwdins and things like that for young people (0-5), and for people aged 5-10 Scoobydoo. They should have a programme where they phone or maybe have children on the show to choose a
programme they want to see on TV, letting them do what they want. This is an idea for you.
It would be great for young people, to get them to speak Welsh at all times

It is a good idea because channels such as the BBC already have channels specifically for children, CBBC and
CEEBIBES. It would give young people and children the chance to be educated and entertained every day of the
week. Not all programmes on Planet Plant appeal to everybody e.g. I don’t like the programme 'Y Fet a Fi' because
I don’t like blood and surgery on animals! It would also change the minds of some young people who do not watch
S4C because they watch English language channels all day. So, in my opinion, it would be an excellent idea to start
broadcasting a channel in Welsh for children and young people.
