STATE OF l\lINi\TESOTA Executive DepartInent Saint Paul April 24, 1947 Hon. LO./lwrence JJ1. Hall, S1Jeaker of the House of Rep1'esentatives, Minnesota State Capitol, Saint Paull, Minnesota. Sir: laIn returning. here\vith House File No. 910 without Iny approval. I cannot see 111'Y way clear to give approval to this 111easure allowing Hihbing to extend hours for on-sale liquor places fr01J1 111idnight to 1 :00 a.Bl. on week days and fr0111 1 :00 a.l11. to 2 :00 2~74 J OUHKAIJ 01" 'rHI'; HOUSE. [75th Day a.ll1. on Saturdays. I recognize that there is SOllle justification for the clainl that a 111unicipality such as Hibbing should be entitled to have the later closing hours pennittecl in cities of the first and second class. I do not think, however, that ,ve are going to help the situation by passing another act setting up a special privilege for a specific city as this bill does. Should this bill be approved, Hibbing would have an hour later closing tiIne than liquor places in other nearby conlnlunities on the Iron Range, which, I anl sure, ,"vould add to the difllculties of regulation. Hibbing's population is equivalent to that of a third class city, and under this act it would acquire a privilege ,vhich no other third class city possesses. I think we ought to try to reduce rather than extend differences in regulation. The tin1e is cOIning when ,ve Blust endeavor to work out changes that ,vill make our liquor laws nlore nearly unifornl in application. Adjushnent of closing hours by all 1neans should be done by generalla'v rather than specific acts. Respectfully yours, LUTHER W. YOUNGDAHL, Governor. :Mr. D'Aquila 1noved that the Veto l\1essage be laid on the table. \Vhich illotion prevailed. MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR THE LATE BEN D. HUGHES. 1\'lessrs.
