(2nd floor)
The Auditorium was originally built as the Council Chamber of
the former County Hall, acquired by the College in 1983. The
room was named in honour of Sir John Plumb, FBA (1911-2001),
eminent scholar, Professor of Modern English History, Fellow of
Christ's (1946-1978), and Master (1978-1982). During the
Second World War he worked as an analyst on the ULTRA
signals intelligence operation at Bletchley Park. Plumb was a
prolific writer, and a major authority on the Stuart and Georgian
periods of English history.
