Inch /1000 Cape roods to the inch (c 1:149 000). Includes index to

adjoining sheets. Composite wall map with cloth backing and wooden
rods. Blue pencil lines drawn in, indicating positions of blockhouses. (Size

185 X 175 cm.) Condition : extensive repairs to edges, insect damage &
the ORC part of the map has been pasted over. Provenance : The map
was inherited by a descendant of the first owner of Melrose House, Mr
George Heys and was probably used by Lord Kitchener while staying in
Melrose House as British Commander-in-Chief.

SWART, C.R. Collection of 3 handwritten notebooks, belonging to
C.R. Swart, State President of the Republic of South Africa, 1961-1967.
One book is dated Bloemfontein, 1917 and entitled "Finale LLB 1918". The
books contain study notes on "Advanced general jurisprudence", "Privaat
Internasionale Reg", en "Kriminele wet". Two of the notebooks are signed
on the first page.

COLLECTION OF LETTERS from ZAR State attorney W.J. Leyds to
Cornelis Plokhooy from 1901 to 1940. All signed Leyds.
Note : Die heer Plokhooy was a Dutch volunteer who took part in the
Anglo-Boer War. He was taken prisoner while on a secret mission for
Reitz and sent to Portugal. He wrote Met den mauser: persoonlijke
ervaringen in den Zuid-Afrikaanschen oorlog.(Publ. 1901). He
returned to the Transvaal as a teacher and after retiring, became
editor of Hollands Weekblad voor Zuid-Afrika, referred to in some of
the letters.
