DIRECTIONS:
1. Paint the tree stand copper and gold. Apply streaks of metallic paints on exposed tree trunk as well.
2. Select black and white photos to fit into the slide mounts and metal rimmed tags.
3. Ornament hangers: Beginning with a length of gold wire 8-10" long, use pliers to start a spiral at one end.
At the end of the spiral, curve the wire in the opposite direction to create an “s”. Create a hook at the top and
trim off excess wire. Use like paper clips to hold the finished ornaments. Create one for each ornament.
4. Tree topper: Cut a narrow slit halfway through the middle of 2 chipboard flowers, so they slide together. Cover
the front of each flower with paper. Cover the back of each flower with gold paper. Cut through the slit again.
Emboss the tips and edges of flowers, using copper inkpad, embossing powder and embossing heat tool. To
apply the copper ink to difficult inside edges, use a Q-tip that has been saturated with inkpad ink. Slide the
flowers into each other’s slot, Slide a length of paddle wire through the slot, press it into the corners of the
joined flowers and anchor the flower to the tip of the tree.

5. Cover a slide mount with red paper. Emboss the edges, and attach a small paper rectangle behind, on which
you have written “Our Family.” Attach a covered, embossed letter “f” to the left side. Add a small ribbon
behind the slide mount. Attach under the flower with paddle wire. Note: for a finished look, finish the backs of
all ornaments by painting, inking, covering with paper, or adding another photo or story.

6. Ornaments: Each ornament consists of (a) a covered, embossed alphabet letter, (b) a photo mounted to
either a slide mount (covered, embossed) or a metal-rimmed tag (embossed), and (c) one or more tags
(embossed) tied on with ribbon. The arrangement of these 3 elements will vary, being determined by the
individual photo used. Tags vary in size and color and contain such information as, name, date born and
other personal information.
7. Arrangement of ornaments on tree: Begin at the top of the tree with ornaments of your oldest ancestors and
work your way down through the descendants, as on most family tree designs. Or simply place then randomly.
After the monogram ornaments are placed on the tree, fill in the spaces with tiny glass balls.
