JINGLE BELLS Squared

2
(JINGLE BELLS)
CHORUS
(1) Algebra, algebra
(2) All the numbers and letters
(3) Oh what fun it is…
(4) To solve a quadratic equation
(5) Algebra, algebra
(6) All the numbers and letters
(7) Oh what fun it is…
(8) To solve a quadratic equation
VERSE 1
(1) Y equals m x plus c
(2) The equation of a straight line
(3) Like, y equals 2 x plus 4
(4) Has a gradient of 2
(5) It intersects the y axis
(6) At a value of 4
(7) It is very interesting
(8) So plot it on a graph
VERSE 2
(1) Then there’s index laws
(2) So very ex-citing
(3) Like, x squared times x cubed
(4) Is x to the power five
(5) So when we times these two
(6) We have to add the powers
(7) But when there is division
(8) Well then it’s subtraction
VERSE 3
(1) We can also talk about factors
(2) Like the factors of 24
(3) 1, 2, 3, 4, 6
(4) 8, 12 and 24
(5) Or the factors of 3 x y
(6) Are 3 and x and y
(7) That’s called factorisation
(8) Splitting it into it’s factors

VERSE 4
(1) The difference of two squares
(2) One square takeaway another
(3) Like ‘a’ squared minus ‘b’ squared
(4) Can be split into two brackets
(5) The first is ‘a’ plus ‘b’
(6) The second is ‘a’ minus ‘b’
(7) And if you do the FOIL
(8) The middle bits cancel out
VERSE 5
(1) Solving an equation
(2) Might be finding a value of x
(3) With 2 x minus 4 equals zero
(4) We add 4 to both sides
(5) Then with 2 x equals 4
(6) We divide both sides by 2
(7) Which gives x equals 2
(8) And, of course, Bob is your uncle
VERSE 6
(1) Then we can expand brackets
(2) It’s a bit like going shopping
(3) With many shopping bags
(4) Filled with the same items
(5) Like on shopping bag
(6) With 6 apples and 2 bananas
(7) And four bags the same
(8) That’s 24 apples, la, la, la…
