ORANGE BOWL AND SUN LIFE STADIUM TO HOST
2013 LACROSSE CLASSIC ON MARCH 2
Florida, Syracuse Faceoff at 5 p.m. Followed by Michigan and Army at 7:30 p.m.
Miami Lakes, Fla. (www.orangebowl.org) – Highlighted by a pair of college games between the top contenders in women’s and
men’s Division 1 lacrosse, the Orange Bowl, in conjunction with Sun Life Stadium, will host the 2013 Orange Bowl Lacrosse
Classic on Saturday, March 2, 2013. In addition to the college games, high school and youth games will be played throughout
the weekend of March 1-3, 2013.
The No. 3 Florida Gators will take on the No. 1 Syracuse Orange in a rematch of last year’s women’s NCAA Tournament
Semifinal. That meeting saw then fourth-ranked Syracuse edge past then top-ranked Florida, 14-13 in double overtime. After its
most successful year in program history, a 19-4 overall record and advancing to the national championship game, Syracuse
enters the 2013 season ranked No.1 in the deBeer preseason media poll. The Gators return all but one starter from a team that a
year ago finished with a 19-3 overall record and got within a win of the national championship game. Game time between the
Gators and Orange is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be televised live by Sun Sports.
The second game of the college double header will feature the University of Michigan and the United States Military Academy
men’s teams. The Wolverines enter their second season at the Division 1 level after consistently being one of the most
successful club programs in the country. Army returns five starters from last year’s team that finished 7-8 overall and 4-2 in
Patriot League action. Sun Sports will broadcast the first ever meeting between Michigan and Army.
In addition to the college action, a number of local high school and youth games will take place over the weekend. On Friday,
March 1, Pine Crest will take on St. Thomas Aquinas (boys) at 7:30 p.m. while on Saturday, March 2 Coral Shores will play
University School (boys) at 10:30 a.m. followed by Cardinal Gibbons and St. Thomas Aquinas (girls) at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets to the Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic are general admission and start at $20, which includes all games throughout the
weekend. Tickets to the event are on sale now available at www.orangebowl.org or by calling the Orange Bowl ticket office at
(305) 341-4701. Tickets can also be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com and the Sun Life Stadium Box Office.
The Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic builds on the Orange Bowl Committee’s tradition of supporting youth and collegiate sports in
South Florida. For 14 years, the Orange Bowl has supported the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance presented by Sports
Authority, which serves more than 16,000 young football players and cheerleaders across South Florida, from Lake Okeechobee
to Key West. In addition to its continued support of youth football, the Orange Bowl directly supports locally-based festivals and
events, including those that provide participatory opportunities to youth from all over the world, such as the Orange Bowl Sailing
Regatta Series, the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships, the Orange Bowl Swim Classic, the Orange Bowl Paddle
Championships and the Junior Orange Bowl.
