FOALS 2013 On the 09th July Waterford welcomed a new baby to the stud- Spirit of Madiba. He is a black Arab colt born from XA Fames Venture and the mare Inbiaath Duna. FEATURED HORSE This month, our featured horse is the registered Clydesdale stallion Jellicie. He was born on 1612-1996 and unfortunately died on 30-11-2011. His dam was Plean Arabella and his sire was Doura Champion of the Glenn. Jellicie produced some top offspring whilst he was at Waterford Stud. Clydesdales originated in Scotland- the first Clydesdale Horse Society was formed in Scotland in 1877. They are a large draft breed which measure between 16-19hh and can weigh up to a ton. Their legs are feathered and they have a distinct convex shaped nose. Their colour range tends to be a little more diverse than the other draught breeds- bay, brown, black , chestnut and roan are most common. Many have white patches somewhere on their body and all four legs are usually white. Clydesdales are excellent for use in the agricultural field and for carriage work, but have gained popularity as a riding horse because of their gentle temperaments. Waterford stud currently has 2 Clydesdale stallions and 20 breeding mares. We have numerous colts and fillies that are for sale and these can be seen on our website.
