Description:
A writing activity for students to practice making compound sentences.

Preparation:
Make copies of the sentence handouts. You will need one set for each
student.
Instructions:
Review compound sentences with your students.
On the board write the following two sentences:
1. This is the book.
2. I like this book.
Tell students you can join these sentences using that to make
one sentence.
Write the following sentence on the board:
This is the book that I like.
Give each student a set of handouts.
Ask your students to make as many sentences as possible in 5 minutes
using the sentence cards.
For example: Joseph drew a painting. It is beautiful.
(Joseph drew a painting that is beautiful.)
