Our class now has 25
new shiny hooks outside
our! Please make sure
you use one hook to
hang your belongings
and keep your backpack
zipped. Flags were hung
inside our class as well!
We are more organized
each day. Four students
were also recognized
this week during our
Mystery Desk check!

learning about place value in our first math unit.
The unit focuses on developing students’
understanding of the true value of numbers.
Students work fluently with large numbers
through the billions and small number to the
thousandths. Students learn how decimals,
fractions and large numbers can be written in
standard form, expanded form, and written form.
Students compare decimals and fractions as well.
Each night students have one page of math
homework to complete, the reteach side, stapled
into their math notebook. We review problems
the next day as needed. Students spend time in
class working with manipulatives for concrete
understanding, playing math games to use the
language of the discipline, and working in small
groups with teacher assistance.
We will finish lesson 1-6 on Friday, review on
Monday, and take our first math test next
Tuesday, September 1st.
Routines
Since the beginning of school our class has been working on and evaluating our classroom routines. Each year with every
class, some old routines work, while others need to be adjusted. We are settling nicely into many daily routines now.
Morning Routine - in the morning students bring all supplies into the classroom:
●
Planner
●
AR Book
●
Math Notebook
●
Science (if had homework)
●
Water Bottle
Students are encouraged to bring in a reusable water bottle to our classroom. They should take it home each night, wash it
out, and bring it back full to start the next morning.
Homework: First thing in the morning students:
●
Write their homework down
●
Turn in homework - math notebooks on rectangular tables
●
Write a number and circle it to ensure they have all the homework written down
●
Students’ planners are checked for accuracy
This week I am attempting to add our homework to our class website under calendar….for emergency purposes!
