Vietnam war began on 1964, during the cold-war, and finished on 1975. It
was located in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The Vietnam has split into two :
the south Vietnam ant the north Vietnam. The south Vietnam and the USA were
against communism and the north Vietnam and NFL (National Liberation
Front ) were pro it. Ho Chi Minh was ahead of the north Vietnam a communist
government and the South Vietnam was a democratic government under Ngo
Dinh Diem. The North Vietnam did a campagn pro communist in South
Vietnam. The United States doesn't want communism to spread over the
country. In August 1964 an american ship was attacked by North Vietnam.
Following this attack, American's troop arrived in Vietnam and bombarded it.
The United States won some victories over Viet Cong and North Vietnamese
forces around Chu Lai and in the Ia Drang Valley in summer 1965.
This picture represents a man from California. His motto was «Can you Dig
it». His immatriculation was D.E.A 5685 BLOOD TYPE «O». He has written
the months he spent in Vietnam. Many soldiers have made nervous breakdown.
In U.S.A, Richard Nixon succeeded to Lyndon Johnson. American troops
returned home. On January, a peace accord was signed to make the war end.
Woodstock opposed the Vietnam war
In 1969 the United States is at war against Vietnam. An important part of the
population rises up against this war was unnecessary and violent.
The involvement of the United States in the Vietnam War is progressive. In the
1950 Eisenhower set up military bases in Saigon to prevent any expansion of
communism in the country.
In 1964 the movement accelerates when Johnson gets the Tonkin Gulf
Congressional Resolution as a result of an alleged North Vietnamese attack on a
ship of the Navy.
This war is poisoning American political life and will be completely
discredited, when the records will be published in the Pentagon.
This war was the most traumatic for soldiers who did not understand their
position. Many returned to the United States with strong psychological trauma.
The Vietnam War was very controversial and the subject of much discussion
and various activities for the return of American troops. Americans, especially
young people want a society governed by love and peace. Music was the
vehicle of a very strong challenge.
So for four days in the month of August 1969, nearly 450,000 people find
themselves cut off from reality and celebrate peace and love at the Woodstock
festival.
