Steinman - Educational Application of Word

Andrew Steinman A34091396 PROBLEM
When presenting new information to a classroom of diverse learners, teachers must diversify their teaching. If teachers teach to only one type of learning style, only that group of learners will gain an understanding of the new information. All other students with different learning styles will be left behind. Teachers can diversify their teaching by integrating technology into the classroom. The following document will show how Word can be used to help teachers teach to a group of diverse learners. RATIONAL
Word has a variety of features that can help teachers address many learning styles. Simply put, Word is not just about words. The following word document includes features in Word that will increase student learning for a group of diverse learners. All Learners The document includes different fonts, styles, and lists. This organization of information in the document is designed all students more easily process and understand the information. Visual Learners For visual learners, the document includes pictures directly related to the information. These visuals are designed to act as cues for these students. This will hopefully allow students to better process the information and also allow for quicker and more accurate retrieval of that information. Auditory Learners For auditory learners, the document includes audio files that read the document to the student. This conversion of information from text to speech is designed to easily allow auditory learners to process and understand the information. These files can also allow students at lower reading levels to more easily process and understand the information. Tactile Learners For tactile learners, the document has questions that students must answer. Through typing the answers to these questions, students are able to use the information, rather than simply reading it. STRATEGY
The document is an active reading assignment. Students are expected to simply read the passage and answer questions based on the passage. Students will be allowed to use computers to read the document and answer the questions. After they have completed their assignment. Students will email the completed assignment to their teacher. ASSESSMENT
Students can be graded for completion or for answering the questions correctly. Tracking changes in this document has also been locked. This will allow the teacher to look back at the changes the student had made, which could possibly give insight on possible cheating. READ THE PASSAGE BELOW.
The theory of evolution by natural selection can be summarized as follows: 1. Every population produces more offspring than can survive in an environment with limited resources, known as overproduction. 2. All populations show variation in traits, and much of this variation is inherited. 3. In a given environment, individuals with traits that make them better suited to survive long enough to reproduce leave more offspring than individuals without these traits. This is known as competition. 4. Over time, inherited traits that improve the chances of survival and reproduction, called adaptations, become more common than other traits within a population. In other words, the population evolves. PLEASE DOUBLE CLICK THE IMAGE TO THE RIGHT TO HAVE THE PASSAGE READ TO
