ABOUT KEGEL'S PRODUCE LOCALLY-GROWN SWEET CORN:
Sweet corn is the most popular locally-grown item that Kegel's Produce stocks all year. Usually
arriving around July 4th, our local corn comes in bins and can be purchased by the dozen or the
45-dozen bin.
White sweet corn is our most common variety and is kept in good supply through the season.
Please check availibility of yellow sweet corn when placing orders. For orders of bins (both
colors), we ask customers to let us know a day in advance, if possible, especially when nearing
the end of the season.

PICTURES FROM PREVIOUS GROWING SEASONS:
In this picture from early in the growing season, sweet corn begins to
sprout from a local field. On the left side of the picture is a biodegradeable plastic which farmers will use to cover their plants from cold
spring evenings. This practice allows for earlier yields.
Here is the same field, a few weeks later in the spring. As you can see, the
plastic has been peeled back once temperatures remain at a safe point.
Not shown in this picture are irrigation pipes, which water plants when
weather remains dry.
About a month and a half later, plants are beginning to mature and are
nearly ready for harvesting. Shown here are stalks of white sweet corn,
grown by Steve Groff at the Cedar Meadow Farm in Holtwood, Pa. Steve
has been supplying Kegel's Produce with local items for nearly 10 years.
After plants reach full growth, ears of corn are picked, binned, and
shipped here to Kegel's Produce. On the right is a picture of our very first
bin of corn delivered to us last year. At peak season, we will roll through
two to four bins of corn per day, July through mid-September.
