Overview!
!
NCGS!Educating!Girls!Symposiums!are!professional!development!offerings!that!take!
place!in!various!geographic!regions.!These!day=long!programs!provide!educators!
with!a!convenient!opportunity!to!convene!and!exchange!best!practices!for!teaching!
and!working!with!girls.!The!topic!for!the!symposiums!will!change!every!18=24!
months!based!on!the!real=time!issues!and!challenges!faced!by!NCGS!member!
schools.!
!
The!current!theme!for!the!symposiums!is!“Developing!Leadership!Through!
Wellness!and!Mindfulness,”!and!discussions!will!revolve!around!the!intersection!
of!leadership,!resilience,!and!wellness.!Featured!speaker!Rachel!Simmons!will!
discuss!new!ways!to!define!girls’!leadership!that!are!directly!linked!to!the!practice!of!
self=care!and!self=compassion.!She!will!encourage!attendees!to!examine!how!and!
why!this!critical!link!is!too!often!overlooked!or!ignored!in!educational!and!
extracurricular!settings.!Participants!will!explore!these!concepts!further!in!peer=led!
breakout!sessions!and!will!brainstorm!strategies!to!incorporate!a!more!expansive!
vision!of!“leadership!from!within”!into!their!day=to=day!work!with!girls.!

The!Educating!Girls!Symposium!audience!includes!heads!of!school,!administrators,!
faculty,!counselors,!and!educational!professionals.!Attendees!come!from!all=girls!and!
coed!schools!that!serve!PK=12th!grade!students!in!the!U.S.,!Canada,!and!abroad,!with!
a!particular!concentration!from!the!region!in!which!the!symposium!is!taking!place.!

•! NCGS!reserves!the!right!to!request!modifications!to!a!session!proposal!before!
final!selections!are!made.!
•! If!a!proposal!is!selected!for!inclusion!in!the!Educating!Girls!Symposium,!NCGS!
reserves!the!right!to!assign!time!of!the!session!at!its!sole!discretion.!NCGS!
also!reserves!the!right!to!edit!the!session!title!or!description!to!meet!its!
editorial!or!marketing!requirements.!!
