Sure, you can serve hot cocoa straight up… But how fun would it be to have a “do it yourself” hot cocoa bar? All you need to provide is the (ready to drink) cocoa, spoons, and a variety of mix-ins—then stand back and see what creative combinations your guests come up with! Here are a few ingredients we thought would be yummy, but feel free to provide whatever sounds good to you. • • • • • • • • • Marshmallows (they now come in flavors!) Whipped cream Crushed peppermint pieces (or have peppermint sticks on hand for stirring) Crushed candy bars (we like Heath bars & Butterfingers but it’s up to you) Caramel squares Baking chips (white chocolate, mint, peanut butter, etc.) Coconut Cinnamon Nutmeg Games Spaghetti/Marshmallow Towers For this game, you need bags of marshmallows and packages of spaghetti. Split the group into teams. (4-8 is probably the ideal team size.) Each team is issued a bag of marshmallows and a package of spaghetti. The goal is to see who can build the highest tower within a set time (1-3 minutes is plenty) using only the spaghetti & marshmallows. The towers must be stable enough to stand by themselves. Highest tower wins. Purse Bingo These fun party games for women would not be complete without purse bingo! Have all guests stand with their purses. Name items that should be in a purse. When an item is called that a guest does not have in her purse, she sits down. The last one standing wins. Pour into a tall glass or narrow, deep bowl. Dip pretzels in coating, leaving 1 in. of space on the end you are holding. Allow excess to drip back into container. Place on waxed paperlined baking sheets; cool. When candy coating has hardened, melt the chocolate chips and pour into plastic bag. (Note: Do not attempt to melt the chocolate chips in the plastic bag. It could cause injury. Don’t ask how we know.) Carefully cut a very small hole in the bottom corner of the bag. Drizzle stripe markings across the pretzel rods. Allow to harden. Store in an airtight container. Alternatives: You could reverse the amount of chocolate and do a semisweet chocolate-dipped drizzled with white chocolate version. Or you can do a batch of both! Yield: about 2 dozen. Ingredients: Cinnamon Popcorn 2 quarts popped popcorn 1 teaspoon dried orange peel 1 egg white 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt Place popcorn in a large (15 x 10)greased baking pan (or divide into smaller pans). In a small bowl, beat the egg white, sugar, orange peel, cinnamon and salt until well blended. Pour over popcorn; toss to coat. Bake at 300° for 30-35 minutes, stirring once. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container. Yield: 2 quarts Ingredients: Peanut Butter Balls 1/2 cup peanut butter 1 cup whole oats 1/2 cup honey 1 cup instant dry milk Mix all ingredients together in large bowl. Form into large marble-size balls. Place in refrigerator for about 2 hours or (this is what I do) place in freezer for about 15 min. These are best served chilled. After these have set in either the refrigerator or freezer, keep them in a zip-top bag in the refrigerator. Recipe from Around the Table ©2011 Sandi Patty. Used with permission. All rights reserved.
