Planet Zooboo has one of your
yellow pencils on our classroom wall.
What a large decoration to have in
your classroom too! If I break a pencil
into 7 equal parts, I am one unit
smaller than a pencil. So that makes
me 6 Earth inches tall! On Zooboo, I
am 3 oliks tall (or 6 inches).
I learned that your desks are about 2 feet high. How
many oliks is that? Please explain AND use a
number line to compare oliks to inches and feet.
3 oliks = ½ foot or 6 inches, so since there are 12
inches in a foot, then there are 12 oliks in 2 feet.
Desks are 12 oliks tall.

How do yards relate to inches? And
how do they both compare to my
oliks and retems? How many inches
is one olik?
Use words and diagrams to explain your reasoning.
1 retem = 1.5 oliks or 1.5 inches; a yard is 36 inches
or 24 retems (36/1.5=24) or 18 oliks (36/2=18)
Zygo Problem #4
#4 :
I’ve heard about so many different types of
measurement units from your class and my Earth
friends in Ireland. In Zooboo, we have retems, oliks,
and toofs.
smallest unit
olik
largest unit
retem
toof
Would you please help me put your Earth units in
order from smallest unit to greatest unit?
yard meter foot inch centimeter kilometer millimeter mile
smallest unit
largest unit
*if you can, add oliks, retems, and/or toofs (a toof is 10x larger
than an olik) to your number line? How did you know they
belonged there? Please give me your reasoning, so I will be
able to prove my measurements to my teacher.
Zygo Problem #5
#5 :
I have heard that an average human can walk about
1 mile in 20 minutes (or 1 kilometer in 15 minutes). I
have seen this distance from space. However, it
would take me, Zygo, ten times longer to travel the
same distance since I am so small.
5a.) Using the average human walking speed, how
far can you travel in 1 hour and 20 minutes?
4 miles (80 minutes/20=4)
5b.) Approximately, how long would Zygo take to
walk same distance as you (round to nearest hour)?
About 13 hours. (80 minutes x 10=800 minutes;
800 min/60 or 80/6=13.3)
Use words and diagrams to explain your reasoning.
Zygo Problem #6
#6 :
I want to put carpet in my scale model of an Earth
classroom. Using an average of the surveyed
classroom sizes, I found out how many inches the
length and width are.
Please help me convert these inches to feet. Explain
your reasoning.

Ireland used meters, and you used
yards. Please help me better
understand how they relate to each
other.
How many inches are in a meter?
About 39 inches
How many inches are in a yard?
36 inches
About how many oliks would fit in a
meter?
1 meter = 19.5 oliks
(1 olik = 2 in, so 39/2=19.5)
Use words and diagrams to explain your reasoning.
Zygo Problem #8
#8 :
I can travel in my spaceship at an average speed of
500 miles per hour.
The distance to the nearest planet is 10,000 miles
away. How many hours will it take me to travel that
distance? (should I bring a snack?)
