Teacher Bios - Abilene Baptist Church

TERESA HAAG
Teresa is an active member of the Abilene family and has
served in many areas of our children’s ministries. Teresa is
an integral part of our VBS Leadership team and we are
excited to have her working with our Tip Top Toddlers.
Teresa has been married to Bob for 34 years and is the
mother of four and grandmother of four. There is nothing
that Teresa loves more than sharing her love and passion
for Christ with children.
CORI GUILFOYLE
Cori has been attending Abilene since spring of 2014.
After becoming a member, she stepped right up to serve
with VBS and assisting the 3 and 4 year olds during our
Wacky Wednesday program. Cori has four children and
has been married to her husband, Gavin, for almost
eight years. She is a graduate of Augusta Technical
college with a diploma in Surgical Technology. She is
excited to be working in the Tip Top Toddler class!
LINDSAY BURFORD
Lindsay Burford graduated from Jacksonville State
University- Go Gamecocks! She grew up in Marietta,
Georgia. She is married to Preston and has two children,
Bridget and Luke who attend ABC Weekday. She has
worked as a pre-kindergarten teacher at a Christian
school and also helped lead a women's ministry in the
recent past. She enjoys spending time with her family,
reading, and shopping for a good deal!
DIANNE JARRETT
Dianne has been married for 42 years, is a mother of two,
and a grandmother of three. Having been a member of
Abilene for 34 years she enjoys the Ladies 1 Bible Fellowship
class. In the past, she has also taught in the children's
ministry in a kindergarten class for many years. She has
been an assistant in the toddler class for 2 years and was the
Lead Teacher in two year olds this past year and is looking
forward to another wonderful year. Dianne has been an
active part of her grandchildren's classes since the start of
the weekday program. She loves being with the children and
CATIE ADKINS
Catie has been a member of Abilene since early 2016.
She attended the University of Georgia and earned her
BSEd in Health Promotion and Behavior. This is Catie’s
first year teaching in the classroom but she has worked
with children in fitness and health as an Exercise
Specialist. Catie is from Winterville, GA, but has lived
in Martinez since 2009. She is married to Anthony and
has two wonderful children, Eva and Tripp. In her
spare time, she enjoys crafts, sewing, and embroidery.
She is super excited to be assisting Dianne in the
STACY MCKENZIE
Stacy grew up in Augusta, and attended Kerr Business
College where she graduated in 2001. She has been a
Preschool Nursery Worker at Abilene Baptist Church for six
years and is also a Three Year Old Bible Fellowship teacher.
She has been married to Eddie McKenzie for 14 years and
they have two children, Julie and Matthew. Stacy is the lead
teacher for the Thrilling Threes.
KRISTI GIBSON
Kristi was born in Chillicothee, Ohio. She was raised in an
Army setting and joined the Navy in 2000. After five years
in the Navy, she left the military to become a stay at home
mom. Kristi has been married to her husband, Frank for 11
years. She has a daughter, Cheyenne and a son, Dalton.
She has an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Kristi and her
family have been at Abilene for three and a half years. She
has been teaching children in many areas of our church,
Cubbies, Bible Fellowship and Women’s Ministry and was
an Assistant in our threes as well. She looks forward to
many more years of worshiping and serving God at our
church and is very excited to be working with our Thrilling
Threes.
VICKIE TECTOR
Vickie has been a part of the Abilene family since
June of 2014. She works with the Joy Club Ministry
and is an active member of her Bible Fellowship
Class. She and her husband, John, have three grown
children, Brice 30, Madalyn 26, and Austin 22. They
added a beautiful little girl to their family in 2010
whom they adopted from China. Lia is 8 years old.
Before coming to ABC Weekday, she worked in
banking for over 20 years. She joined ABC Weekday
in February 2015 as a substitute and transitioned into
an assistant position.
She loves children and is so excited to begin her
second year working as the Lead Teacher of the
“Tremendous Twos”.
JANET PRESCOTT
Janet is 19 years old and is a member at Abilene and
has been here since she was just a baby. She has
always had a passion to work with little children and
she feels so blessed to have the opportunity to work at
ABC Weekday. She is currently taking online classes
through GMC to complete her core classes and
hopefully pursue a career in childcare of some sort.
This is her second year as Assistant teacher and is
looking forward to meeting all of you!
OLIVIA KITCHENS
Olivia has been living in Augusta all of her life and is a
member at Abilene Baptist Church. She holds a diploma in
Early Childhood Education and Marketing from Augusta
Technical College. Currently, she is attending college for a
degree in Social Services and working towards adoption
counseling. Olivia serves in our church preschool and looks
forward to working, learning and getting to know the students
and parents in the “Thoughtful Threes” class.
ASHTON ODOM
Ashton is a graduate from Evans High School as of May
2015. She has been a member of Abilene Baptist Church
since November 2012. At Abilene she serves in the choir,
as an AWANA leader, and is part of the college group.
This is Ashton’s first year working in the ABC Weekday
Program as an assistant teacher. She has also worked at
Dolphin Academy Swim School as a swim instructor since
January 2015. Ashton hopes to one day earn a degree in
Early Childhood Education and use her degree as a
AMY LINDALE
Amy is from North Augusta, SC. She holds a BS in Psychology
and is a member at Abilene. She has worked for Grace
Methodist Child Development Center in North Augusta for 8
years as well as Aiken County Public Schools for 3 years. Amy
has been married to her high school sweetheart, Michael, for
19 years. They have a 3 daughters, Shelby—18, Skylar—15 and
Sophie—10. She is the lead teacher for the Thriving Threes.
JENNIFER HOSIER
Jennifer has been a member of Abilene for over a year.
She is involved in preschool ministry and loves working in
the weekday ministry. This will be her second year to
work in our weekday program. She has taught children
many years in AWANA and various children’s ministries.
She has five children of her own. She is looking forward
to working with your child this year.
NICOLE THOMPSON
Nicole was born and raised in Orangeburg, SC, but has lived
in Augusta, GA for 13 years and has been a member of
Abilene since September 2011. She received a degree in
Sociology and Human Resources from USC Aiken in 2000.
After graduation Nicole worked in banking for three years
and then became a manager at Enterprise Rent A Car. Nicole
has been married to Bryan for seven years and they have a
daughter, Emma Wren. She is very happy to have found a
family at Abilene and is excited about working as the Lead
Teacher in the Fantastic Fours.
AMANDA SHIREY
Amanda has been a member of Abilene since 2014.
She sings in the choir and has served in VBS and
nursery and other areas of the church where the Lord
has lead her. Amanda is married to Brett and they
have three children, Kayden, Ayden and Addyson. She
loves going on vacations with her family and spending
time with them and enjoys anything outdoors. She is
very excited about being a part of ABC Weekday.
VERONICA STANFORD
Veronica has been married 38 years to her high school sweetheart,
Tommy. They have a son, Jason and a daughter, Amanda. God
has blessed her with six grandchildren, Karson, Kayden, Ayden,
Ryleigh, Addyson and Trey. She loves spending time with her
family, sharing her faith and serving her Lord. Although new to
Abilene she has enjoyed helping with Wacky Wednesday.
Veronica also enjoys serving in the community teaching Bible
studies through Serving Time Ministry of the CSRA as well as a
part of Ann Graham Lotz , Just Give Me Jesus.
She has been teaching in private school for 28 years as well as
serving as an Assistant Administrator. She attended Pensacola
Christian College teaching the ABEKA curriculum and Augusta
Tech receiving a certificate in Early Childhood Development. She
has taught grades K4—6th. Her passion is teaching, inspiring and
challenging students to love God and learning. She is excited to
be a part of ABC Weekday and looking forward to a wonderful
year.
JANICE GREEN
Janice is a graduate of University of Mobile with a degree in elementary
education. God led her to a degree in teaching by helping her to realize
how much she enjoys children and watching them grow and learn. She is
married to Richard Green. They have three adult children and two
daughter-in- laws; Peter and Rachel, Jonathan and Vanessa and Shelly.
Janice has been substituting at ABC Weekday and fell in love with the staff
and children. When the opportunity came open to work in the Fabulous
Fours she was very excited. She looks forward to working with your
children as they are precious to God and to her!
CHERYL MATTOX
Cheryl Mattox has taught school for 27 years. She has taught K-4,
first grade, fifth grade and sixth grade and taught for many years at
Augusta Christian Schools. Cheryl has a BA degree in behavioral
science from Tift College (now part of Mercer University) and a BA
in Early Childhood Education from Augusta College. She has been
a member of Abilene since 1979. She sings in the choir, has directed
4 year old children’s choir, and subs as a preschool Bible Fellowship
teacher. Cheryl and her husband, Jerry, have been married for 43
years. They have two children, Kelly and Chad, and four
grandchildren, Dalstin, Caiden, Mattox and Audrey. Cheryl is lead
teacher for the Fun-loving Fives.
ROBIN GENNARELLI
Robin Gennarelli has been part of the Abilene family since the
spring of 2013. She has served in many areas including VBS, Bible
Fellowship and Women’s Ministry and has taught in a 2 and 3 year
old preschool program in a sister church. Robin brings a passion
and love for children to ABC Weekday. She loves being a part of
ministry and watching God work in the lives of all of our families.
When not at church, she enjoys baking and cooking as well as
exercising. Robin has been married to Chris for 12 years. Her
favorite hobby is spending time with her family, especially her 2
year old grandson.
SUZANNA SUTTON
Suzanna will be teaching kindergarten this year at ABC Weekday . Her
journey as a teacher started at a very young age. Her mother, along with
several other family members are teachers. She graduated from college
with a degree in Early Childhood Education and began teaching public
school. During those first few years of teaching she received a Masters
degree in Instructional Technology, a Specialist in Educational Leadership,
and got married to her husband Alex. A few years later her first child,
Aiden, arrived. Next came her daughter Sarahann, and then Austin. After
teaching in the public school system for 10 years, she decided to be a stay at
home mom. Aiden had been attending ABC weekday for three years and it
was a place that her family loved. She says the opportunity arose for her to
become a teacher here and couldn't think of a better place! During her free
time, her family loves to vacation at the beach, play games, attend church,
and remodel things around the house. She looks forward to seeing you and
your family at ABC Weekday!
LINDA PERKINS
Linda has been a member of Abilene Baptist Church for 24
years. She and her husband of 40 years, Gary, live in Evans
and have two daughters, Kristin and Amy. Linda worked at
Warren Baptist Church for five years with the two and three
year olds as a teacher and at Blue Ridge Preschool for two
years as a ParaPro with four year olds. In our weekday
program, Linda will be assistant for the Fabulous Fours. She
is excited about this program and believes God will grow
more children and families into this ministry to further His
kingdom.
