confirmed that the multiui illion electronic aircraft

The electronic parking
svsteni, the AGNIS (Azrnuth
Guidance for Nose-In Stands)
and the PAPA (Parallax Aircraft Parking Aid), were intended to guide planes along
the taxiwavs and into the
-parking bays in the apron
area, thereby doing away
with the need for ground
rnarshallers. The equipment
failed to work and two official of the airport, the chief
operations manager, Mr. S.
Wamae, and the chief aerodromes engineer, Mr. V.
Davis, had asked the directorate of personnel managemnent in the office of the pre.
sident for more ground
rnarshallers until the equipment could become operational.
In his appeal, Davis said
the equipment would need
a lot of modifications before
it could be depended upon.
It is once again considered necessary that approach mnarshallers are essential since they have the
over-all control of the apron
parking and proper operations ',Davis said.
Nasieku, however, disagreed with this view. ''I do
not agree with the observations made by the aerodrou-nes engineer. If we had
no unarshallers, the situation
would be chaotic. But so far
we have not had any complaints front the airlines
operating at the airport, he
said.
