Math 70 Review Sheet Test #1

Math 70 Review Sheet
Test #1
Instructions: Bring a pencil and eraser. You may have a ruler, but it cannot
have mathematically useful writing on it. Calculators are not allowed! You may
ask questions during the test by raising your hand, but you may not otherwise
talk. You will not be allowed to look at other students’ papers. You must stay in
your seat until you are done with the test. Write answers in fraction form, unless
there is a reason to do otherwise. Each problem will be worth 10 points.
The first 10 problems will be like these. You will need to either simplify or
solve, as is appropriate. Answers to inequalities should be graphed and put
in interval notation.

There will be 5 word problems, selected from types like these. You will be
expected to write word answers to word problems.

Find two consecutive odd integers such that twice the smaller is 15 more
than the larger.
There will also be 5 graphing problems of types like these. You will not
need to bring graph paper to the test. A graphing grid will be included on
the test if you are expected to draw a graph.
1)
Find the equation of the line that passes through the points (-4, 6) and
(-1, -2)
2)
Find the equation of the line that passes through the point (3, 7) and that
is perpendicular to the line 4x + 5y = 20
3)
Find the equation of a line that goes through the point (3, 4) and has an
undefined slope.
4)
Find the x-intercept and y-intercept of the line -4x + 3y = 10
5)
Determine if these two lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither:
The line with equation 2 x  5 y  11
The line through the two points (4, -2) and (8, 8)
6)
Graph the line 3x – 2y = 12
