In order to make sure all KS4 & KS5 students have access to all the revision materials possible we have compiled some of them online at the new One Stop Revision Shop, which can be accessed by following this link: https://sites.google.com/ eduapps.ephs.ealing.sch.uk/revisionshop/home Student Absence – Informing the School if Your Child is Absent Please can we remind parents that students should be in school at all times unless they are Don’t Forget unwell. Routine medical appointments should be scheduled outside of the school day. We Monday 15th May ask that parents telephone the school before 8:55am, follow the prompts to reach the GCSE/GCE/BTEC Exams start correct line, to inform the school’s attendance administrator if your child is absent. We ask that you speak clearly and leave your child’s name year and tutor group and the reason for Monday 5th June their absence. Calls should be made on each day of absence to update the school. Ms Martino, Librarian Year 10 Berlin Trip: Parental Information Meeting We would like to invite you to a parental information evening for the Berlin Trip on Wednesday 7th June 2017 in the School Dining Hall from 6pm - 7:15pm. It is vital that parents/carers attend this meeting as it will outline the details of the trip and inform you of our expectations of the students. Students are also welcome to attend. Please ensure that your child has a valid passport for the trip to Berlin. Copies of Passports and European Health Insurance Cards will need to be handed to Ms Clark by Friday 16th June 2017. The new EHIC cards can be applied for on line at https://www.ehic.org.uk/ Internet/home.do, by calling 0845 606 2030 or in person at your nearest post office. EHIC can take up to a month to process so please apply early. All exam notices are posted on the board at the end of N Block, and students should check these for any changes on the day. Ms Yates, Examinations Officer RS Examinations I would like to take this opportunity to say well done and thank you to year 10 students. They have been exemplary in behaviour and attitude in their preparations for the RS exams this week. They were faced with a difficult challenge this year and definitely rose to it! Many students have taken every opportunity offered by the RS department to participate in extra revision sessions, and have worked really hard in lessons. Ms Ramalli and RS Team Key Stage 3 Assessment Weeks The Year 9 Assessment week will run from Monday 12th June to Friday 16th June. The Year 7 Assessment week will run from Monday 19th June to Friday 23rd June. The Year 8 Assessment week that is scheduled to run from 26th June until 30th June will be extended into the early part of the following week. The timetable for these assessments will be constructed so that students who are on the French Exchange will have the opportunity to complete these assessments on their return. Mr Eagleton, Assistant Headteacher Year 11 Prom Invitation letters to the Prom will be given out to students allowed to go to the Prom next week. Please ensure you go through the details of the letter with your child as it contains important information. The letter should be kept until after the Prom as it has details on how to get access to the photos taken by the professional photographer, should you wish to purchase them. Reminder that refunds cancellations for the Prom will not be accepted after Sunday 21st May, except in cases of serious medical issues. Students are reminded that the points system will continue throughout the exam period and exemplary behaviour and correct uniform are to be expected right throughout this very important period. Hoodies We are expecting the Hoodies to be delivered shortly and should be given out to students, hopefully on Thursday, during tutor time. In 1877 the Nez Perce refused to go to a reservation, a land prescribed by the US government for Native Americans. Instead, Chief Joseph attempted to lead 800 of his people to Canada. They made a journey of 1100 miles, fighting the U.S. Army all the way. Eventually, they were trapped forty miles from their destination, where, after a fight lasting five days, the 431 surviving Nez Perce were beaten. Accepting this defeat, Chief Joseph made his speech of surrender Task: Underneath the speech, there are 8 statements, only four of which are true. Can you identify them? “I am tired of fighting. Our chiefs are killed. Looking Glass is dead. Toohulhulsote is dead. The old men are all dead. It is the young men who say yes or no. He who led the young men is dead. It is cold and we have no blankets. The little children are freezing to death. My people, some of them, have run away to the hills and have no blankets, no food. No one knows where they are – perhaps freezing to death. I want to have time to look for my children and see how many I can find. Maybe I shall find them among the dead. Hear me, my chiefs. I am tired. My heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.” Chief Joseph is tired of fighting. Toohulsote is not dead. The man who led the young men is still alive. It is cold, but they have shelter. The little children are freezing to death. All of his people have run away to the hills. Please come to the library to choose your PRIZE. 18th May 2017 Elthorne Park High School Newsletter Years 8 + 9 Teambuilding Workshop On Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th May a group of 14 Year 8 and 9 pupils went on a 2 day trip Teambuilding Workshop to Willow Tree Centre accompanied by Ms Newstead, Ms Evans and Ms Revell. After a couple of weeks of a cold snap, we were so fortunate to have beautiful sunshine and warm weather for the duration of the trip. Pupils participated in all areas of "house life" with teams of Cooks, Waiters and Orderlies preparing food, setting up tables and washing up. Willow Tree is only 30 mins from school but set in acres of beautiful countryside with not a shop in site. Red Kites circled overhead and Swifts were seen diving into their nests, foxes the size of small Monkjack deer were seen in the early morning mist . We ate like royalty and enjoyed a BBQ on Wednesday evening with Peri Peri Chicken, Chicken Tikka, burgers and Lamb Kebabs along with a huge array of salads... and chips. Ms Reeves joined us for the evening. Mobile phones were pretty much absent for the majority of the time. Conversation, laughter and games were predominant. Pupils spent nearly the whole time outside playing rounders, football and took part in organised activities of Night Line and Spiders Web. On Thursday morning we went to HOAC where they took part in Archery and the Commando Challenge where team work, leadership and communication skills really took shape. Our thanks go to all the pupils who took part, they were amazing to be with and we enjoyed watching the development of leadership and team work and also Ms Dhami and Ms Wells who drove us there and back. Teachers will then be able to support students on questions they need help with. All relevant papers should be marked using mark schemes which have been uploaded to Edmodo prior to each revision session. Students should also bring their Pearson Higher/Foundation revision workbooks to each session. If students are missing any papers, they should see their teacher to get new copies or download copies for themselves from Edmodo, using group code urxcdk BEFORE they attend to maximise the use of the revision session. Its hazards are hostile to us all. Its conquest deserves the best of all mankind, and its opportunity for peaceful cooperation may never come again. But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.
