french revolution timeline

FRENCH REVOLUTION TIMELINE
The French Revolution brought together the ideas of the Enlightenment at its best and at its worst. This assignment
will ask you to focus on the key events of this important historical event. With your tablemates, you will create a
timeline of twenty key events in the years leading up to the French Revolution, the Revolution itself, and the years
immediately following it.
Assignment
Chapter three of your textbook is devoted to the French Revolution and Napoleon. It has four
sections. You need to do the following:
1. Divide the chapters so that each person in your group has one section. If you have three
people in your group, do not do the first section. Divide up sections 2-4.
2. Read through the entire section that you are assigned
3. As you read, choose what you see as the five key events or trends in your section. Try to
choose events that span the time period of your section but also seem crucial to
understanding your section regarding the Revolution.
4. List the event, its date or range of dates, and a four-five sentence description in your own
words of what the event is and why it is significant. This work must be word processed in
TNR, 12pt. font, and uploaded to turnitin.com A paper copy of this writing is due Thursday,
October 6 in class and must be uploaded to turnitin.com by Thursday night at 11:59 p.m.
No procrastinator’s pass for this.
5. Come to class on Friday, October 7 with an additional copy of your five event titles and the
writing for each of the events already printed and cut out so that it is ready to be put on the
timeline. This material can be stylized to look interesting on the timeline. Each of your five
events must have an illustration to accompany it; only two of these five may be images from
the internet and must be properly credited. The other three must be illustrations that are
original (made by you), colorful, and show decent care. All illustrations whether original or
printed from the internet should be no larger than 2” by 2”.
6. Format, arrange and paste all your group’s events in chronological order on your brown
paper bag timeline; one of you will need to bring a large, brown paper grocery bag. We
will supply glue sticks, but if you have tape, you might want to bring it. Also, bring any
markers or colored pencils you might want to make your timeline look even better!
Everyone should bring scissors!
Important: IF YOU ARE ABSENT on Thursday, be sure you email your work to someone
in your group, or to M/M Davis, so that it can be printed and given to your group.

in group.
