Converting an ULTRA-U Sensor to a ToughSonic® TSPC-15S

Converting an ULTRA-U Sensor to a
ToughSonic® TSPC-15S-232/U
The Senix ULTRA-U product family is discontinued. The ULTRA-U sensors can be directly replaced with model
TSPC-15S-232/U shown below, which is more rugged and offers more features at a comparable price. Other ToughSonic
models are available, including those for use in chemical environments. Contact Senix if you have any questions.

Wiring Comparison
The TSPC-15S-232/U sensor connections use a
one-ft. pigtail cable permanently potted into the
sensor housing and terminated with a DB9F
connector matching that of the ULTRA-U to allow
direct replacement. Wire colors are shown below.
The ULTRA-U sensor connections are via a rear DB9F (female)
rear connector. Cable part number UA-PC plugs into this connector
and has pigtail leads at the opposite end. Pigtail wire colors are
shown below.

Power Input Connections
ULTRA-U power input is provided either through the rear connector
(pins 1 and 6, red and black wires) or via the rear 3mm jack.
TSPC-15S-232/U power input is via the pigtail
cable’s Brown (DC+) and Blue (DC-) wires.
Adjustment and Computer Connection
ULTRA-U adjustment is made using the rear SET button and/or
SoftSpan software running on a Windows PC. To configure a
sensor using SoftSpan the UA-PC pigtail cable is removed and
replaced with Senix P/N UA-CC-U which plugs into the PC’s 9-pin
COM port. Sensor power is provided via the rear jack when using
the UA-CC-U.
ALTERNATIVE: The serial data R232 and ground connections of
the UA-PC cable can be connected by user wiring to a PC COM
port. This method allows the sensor to be adjusted while installed in
and powered by the user’s equipment.
ToughSonic sensors are adjusted using the rear
TEACH button and/or SenixVIEW software running
on a Windows PC. Computer COM port connection
can be made using Senix Software Configuration
Kit UA-KIT-232/U for a quick and simple
connection, or by direct user wiring.
